Tommy Bolin - Teaser (1975)
Epic | 1975 | Rock Funk | FLAC+CUE+HQ-Covers (400Dpi) | NO LOG | 236Mb+5Mb

After performing in a variety of bands since the late '60s, Bolin finally released his first solo album in 1975. Teaser is an impressive display of the guitarist's prowess & range, and is a natural progression from the previous Bolin-dominated James Gang albums Bang & Miami and his work with drummer Billy Cobham. The album features heavy doses of jazz-rock fusion (furthered by guests Jan Hammer, Dave Sanborn, & Michael Walden) in the instrumentals 'Homeward Strut' & 'Marching Powder', and straight-ahead rock in tracks like 'The Grind'. Bolin was always equally adept at subtleties, and the ballad 'Dreamer', and the exotic 'Savannah Woman' (with percussion from Phil Collins) represent this stylistic range here. Overshadowed historically by his guitar dynamics, Bolin's understated yet strong vocals are another selling point. Teaser is a stronger album than its one successor, the uneven 'Private Eyes', and survives as Bolin's signature work. Still a great pleasure to listen to and one of my all time favorite albums !!

Please note that this is an old but good rip (without log), made with an old version of EAC, and coming from my archives on external hard disc.

Yes oXbow, it is, it is......it really is.....Even more on Vinyl. One of the best rock albums ever !!! It's a shame that it has never released as a SBM version !! Or is it ????

Thanks a bunch! Can't wait to listen to this. Was introduced to Tommy Bolin when I downloaded a vinyl rip of 'Private Eyes'. Great album. I suspect this one is too. I'm glad this is not a SBM. Would have probably turned it down. IMHO, the SBM would have been too compressed. So... thanks for sharing this version.

Private Eyes ia a nice album. This one is killing you to the bones. Play "Marching Powder" as loudly as possible and you'll realize what jazz/rock is !!! And I must disagree with you regarding SBM. Not all SBM's are too compressed. Appearently it relies on the generation of the master tapes used. The 1st generation has not been always available, I think !!

@janwal46

If it wasn't for 'Private Eyes' I would not have known about Tommy Bolin. Hence, I would have overlooked this posting. So, am looking forward to listening to this later this week.

SBM's are compressed, naturally some more than others. My generation as a rule doesn't care for the compressed sound. The MP3 format brought on this so called remastering. Record companies are 'banking' on people disagreeing with me on not liking 'remastering'. Most people will disagree with me, [sometimes really heated] which I'm more than ok with. Cd's with the 1980's pressings are dirt cheap now because people dumped them for the 'new sound'.

all of that aside, thanks for sharing this. Your blog is bookmarked and I'm grabbing some of your non-remastered stuff, including J.J. Cale.

@mr. magoo

The James Gang albums with Tommy Bolin are worth a listen too. Unfortunately TB died shortly after finishing Private Eyes. A great loss for the world of (jazz)rock. Regretfully he's still unknown to many people. Teaser I also have in vinyl original 1975 USA pressing, and that's one of my cherished treasures...
