Environments 3 Dawn and Dusk

Environments 3: Dawn & Dusk at New Hope, PA (1987)
EAC Secure | CD Image & LAME VBR -extreme mp3
Ambient, Sound Effect, Nature
430MB & 110MB

I am saddened to announce that this is my final publication on Avaxhome.
Alexpal (one of the moderators/owners(?) of Avaxhome) has started adding mirrors to my publications and the effect is that the number of downloads per day of my uploaded files dropped from about 100, down to 1, beginning the day after the mirror was added. I sent a message to Alexpal asking him to not add mirrors to my publications. He replied that he would not stop, that it was Avaxhome policy to mirror publications.

There has been much debate on this subject is other threads and I have expressed my views and my reasons for them: I do not support mirroring downloads when the publisher has requested no mirrors. But I do not make the rules on Avaxhome and I have failed to get them changed. There is a saying, “If you don't like the rules here, then leave.” So that is what I am doing. Until the rules change to respect the wishes of the uploaders — those people who make available the music, books, software and other items for sharing — I will be silent. --sunsponge

Dawn & Dusk at New Hope, PA, from Syntonic Research.

From the booklet:
The Magic of Psycho-Acoustical Sound
The dawn and dusk sounds superbly preserved on this CD are sounds which have been gradually vanishing from the North American countryside. Moreover, they are only available for a month or so, even if you happened to live in this secluded sector of Buck's County in eastern Pennsylvania. Dawn at New Hope recreates the aural environment of a beautiful morning in late spring, complete with magpies, owls, crows, doves, woodpeckers, insects and geese. Dusk at New Hope, recorded two months later at the very same spot, contains a superb recording of night insects in stereo syncopation. On the right channel you have nearby crickets. On the left channel you have distant mixed insects....”

“One of the most amazing aspects of environments is the the ability to control distracting noise with recorded sound. Basically, SR releases with a "white noise" content are most effective in this context.... There are many variations on these themes in the environments Series, each with specific characteristics which research has shown to be important to various personality types.”

From Amazon.com:

“Please Bring Back the "Environments" Series, on CD!”

“"New Hope, PA" is perhaps the most beautiful of an aesthetically and technically unparalleled collection of "natural sounds" recordings known as the "Environments" series. This series, which puts other natural sounds recordings (/w or w/o music) to shame, was first issued in the 1970's on vinyl, using an advanced recording process that allowed the listener to hear every breath, every crackle, every ripple, every flap of a falling leaf, all painstakingly recording by expert audio artists. The excellent sound quality of the LP recordings cries out for a CD release (or even a vinyl release!), and the variety of sound captures in the dozen-odd albums reveals artistic imagination in selection as well as in recording: The lush and colorful orchestra of birds singing in "Optimal Aviary", the ebb and flow of "Ultimate Ocean", the intense beat and deep beauty and mystery of the most vital of anatomical organs in "Ultimate Heartbeat", "Tintinnabulation" (the chorus of soft high, medium and deep-pitched bells is wonderful to hear; the producers recommended you play it at any of the four LP speeds (16 2/3, 33 1/3, 45, and 78 rpm), as well as more traditional themes of rainstorms (that naturally calming hypnotic patter of water drops that for a time was the only sound the ailing WC Fields could go to sleep to), thunderstorms (NOT the relentless and tasteless crash-bang of a THX Dolby Sensurround hurl-you-out-of-your-chair cut-and-paste movie soundtrack, but a recording that faithfully depicts the artistic composition and orchestration of of a purely natural phenomenon, from the dead calm, to the light breeze, to the faint rumbles and cracklings far off in the distance, growing nearer and nearer, and nearer... Perhaps the least successful (as a repeat play "environmental recording") of the series was "Be-In", a fascinating and delightful capture of the sounds (not just the indicidual sounds, but again, the entire composition of interlaced sounds) one could hear at an authentic "hippy love-in" of the late '60's. Its only limitation was that because it included some human speech and other "artificial" sounds (bongo drums, whistles, shouts and the like) which we interpret differently from non-semantic-laden sounds (those of you who can hear the human voice as a natural phenomenon need not worry), it did not bear as much cyclic repetition as the rest of the works in the series. Those reviewers who report playing a single recording (such as "Rain") All Night Long are NOT exaggerating one bit. These recordings are genuinely "environmental" in the second sense, as sounds used to produce your own audio environment. I successfully used these recordings for a time to go to -- and stay -- asleep at a time in my life when I was too stressed even for medication to calm me down and alleviate my tension headaches. These recordings are good food and fine wine for the ears -- "New Hope, PA" in particular is as fundamentally beautiful an environmental piece of the American experience as Grant Wood's "American Gothic" painting, or Aaron Copeland's music. It is well worth savoring -- as are the rest in the series, which truly Ought to be re-release in an age when sound technology has finally caught up with the artistic ear.”

I understand there's a lot of work put into uploading.
Thanks for the good efforts!
However it might be in the general interest to have various sources.
And that's what it is about right?
Posted By: Brother No 1 Date: 11 Nov 2006 16:19:20
"And that's what it is about right?"

Maybe...

Here's another way to look at it - A person spends 1-2 hours ripping, labeling, checking a CD - another hour to upload it (if their connection holds) then someone like IceZero or AlexPal d/l it and up it with minimal effort to a site that actually pays them for every d/l

How do you think it feels when the only comments are either people complaining or mirrors?

I'm the only one left of our original group that still comes here - then again I suppose no-one has noticed that the number of pre-release albums has decreased...

And now you're forcing more people away... :[

If someone has a RS Premium account they would surely download it from RS and thus complaining uploaders should be happy and being rewarded for their effort.

I imagine there must be plenty of them or they wouldn't be insisting on using RS on here in the first place.

The Premium Account Uploaders do not care about those of us who don't and have such an account and struggle FOR LONGER and MORE than They do to download these from RS.

They probably live in the luxury of Their parents homes and get everything for nothing; not like most of us who have to work for a living. Get their beds made and clothes washed and food cooked for them like the spoilt brats they probably are And then winge cause they don't get our points for their effort on here.

We wait and hour in-between for tiny itsy bitsy bitty part downloads at their mercy and they get the points. and waste our time and isp quotas with incomplete downloads that get deleted over and over and never get reposted...... ONLY FOOLS WOULD WANNA REUPLOAD OVER AND OVER TO GET POINTS

LETS FACE IT PREMIUM UPLOADERS ***DON'T**** DO IT FOR THE RIGHT REASONS AND AS FAR AS IM CONCERENED I WILL BE BETTER OFF WITH OUT THEM ON HERE KEEPING ME UP ALL NIGHT AND KILLING MYSELF TO GET DOWNLOADS DOWN FROM DAMM RS

So be on ya way Premium Uploaders and let the rest of the world be happy and enjoy this great site.

You forget that many of us surf the net and will be offered your postings elsewhere so we wont lose and many Avaxians will still repost your post on here using other share sites that the majority of people on here would be happier with than RS, and thus you will still miss the points and be the long term losers.

PREMIUM UPLOADERS WHO WANNA PUSH RS DOWN OUR THROATS BE GONE AND LEAVE US IN PEACE I SAY

AND ALEXPAL YOU ARE RIGHT AND DO A GREAT JOB WITH THIS SITE AND THOSE GREEDY PREMIUM USERS WONT BE MISSED IM SURE
**************************** NOBODY IS INDISPENSIBLE IN THIS WORLD*************************************

There ive said my peace spose you can guess I am a bit pissed of ahhhhhhhhh

Fluffy - you've missed the point - idiot!
Posted By: ELOFAN Date: 12 Nov 2006 02:10:25
...Thanks so much sunsponge...Fluffy and like him missed the point big time...
Posted By: drloveone Date: 12 Nov 2006 13:29:18
To a certain extend I agree with Fluffy's argument. But what i suggest is that we post the mirror links and we also propose where to upload. I have my views on RS and I personally don't like what's happening and spend hours trying to get files I like. But damn... there must be other good places where we can upload and download safely...no?!
Posted By: M61 Date: 13 Nov 2006 00:52:53
what's this... Fluffy this is to you: Ever heard of a word called RESPECT? If not you should start using your braincells to think about a concept like RESPECT instead of reflecting the fact you don't seem to be able (or willing) to spend a few $ on an account... tell me... how much did you save by dwl cracked copies etc...hmmm... seems your money goes elsewere but you still want it all don't ye? Your story about the poor not premium account holders sucks... what are "THE RIGHT REASONS" anyway hmm... how much is an premium account hmmm? about 10€ for 30 days... that's about 2 packs of smokes, or about 33 cents a day... so go and crawl back under the stone you came from..., flaming like this is not how we do things in here... so and that is what I needed to share... hope you're man enough to handle critisism...
to sunsponge: sorry to see you go, but if it's the policy here to place mirrors well than that is what comes with the board... also my opinion is that one shouldn't mirror if explicitly asked not to do so...
good luck and thx for all your work done here
greetz and respect

@sunsponge
I really don’t think that rules are so explicit or strict in this site; seems to be some mutual offending that takes place in the problem in question: Alexpal felt offended by your request to not to add any mirrors, and you felt offended by the appearing mirrors. And offending followed exaggerated actions, in both side. Maybe both of you should try to discussing the problem in some calmer, and more open-minded way - to benefit equally you, Alexpal, and the enthusiastic downloaders. :)

I bet "Syntonic Research" won't miss you. Remember, where every post comes from and the penalties we ALL can be charged with. By the way, have any "Metallica" they love having their stuff posts.
Why worry about mirrors. If you don't have any, somebody will post under their name w/ several and you wil lose out. It's better that YOU post the mirrors, not try to stop others.
