The final George Harrison album issued under his contract with Apple Records (EMI), “Extra Texture (Read All About It)” was also the final album of new material by any artist released on Apple Records. Released on September 22, 1975, the album featured the Top 20 hit “You.” “Extra Texture” and its predecessor, 1974’s “Dark Horse,” remain the only two rock albums by Harrison not remastered and expanded. It reached #8 on the U.S. album charts.

In 1974 Harrison formed his own label (Dark Horse Records) in anticipation of the expiration of his contract with Apple Records. He signed artists (Ravi Shankar was his first signing) and following this album’s release in late 1975, the former Beatle signed himself to his own label and shopped for a distribution deal. Although A&M was initially contracted to distribute the Dark Horse slate of artists, a dispute with Harrison regarding missed deadlines forced George to move his boutique label to Warner Bros. Highlights include “You” and “The Answer’s At The End.”
