Recorded in Prague, 1992 and 1994

''A few hours ago I went again to see Haydn, who now lives quite close to me since he moved house to come to settle in one of the suburbs of the city. On this occasion he played for me on the piano some quartets for violins that a certain Count Erdödy has commissioned from him for the sum of a hundred ducats. They are more than masterly works, overflowing with ideas.'' -F.S. Silverstolpe, Swedish ambassador and friend of Haydn, letter of 14 June 1797
