James Asher - Lotus Path (2004)
Ape + Cue -> 360 Mb | Art cover included
Genre: New Age / Meditative
| “ | Lotus Path is a wonderful meditative recording from an artist who is best known for his drumming and ritual albums. James Asher has put aside his frame drums for echoed flutes and the gentle percussive qualities of the dulcimer, creating an innovative sound reminiscent of his first album, 1989's The Great Wheel. While it would be easy to refer to Lotus Path as ambient, it goes far beyond that simple description. The title track is over 30 minutes long and was composed for extended meditations, incorporating world beat rhythms with New Age sensibilities. On this track, Asher mixes the eight-stringed bouzouki and the 36-stringed dulcimer, using a moaning guttural chant for a percussive base. These unusual elements are further offset by a sparse arrangement and the evocative use of echo and silence. "Cedar Tree" is another example of Asher's unique sound. Heartbeat drumming slowly percolates while the sound of a flute rolls in and out like the tide, resulting in a provocative track that is perfect for appreciating a quiet moment. This recording is not a blank canvas like other meditative offerings. Instead Lotus Path is a guiding force for those who want to savor the stillness as they enjoy a musical journey... cduniverse.com | ” |
