This is one of the best-known Hank Mobley recordings, and for good reason. Although none of his four originals ("Workout," "Uh Huh," "Smokin'," "Greasin' Easy") caught on, the fine saxophonist is in top form. He jams on the four tunes, plus "The Best Things in Life Are Free," with an all-star quintet of young modernists -- guitarist Grant Green, pianist Wynton Kelly, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Philly Joe Jones -- and shows that he was a much stronger player than his then-current boss Miles Davis seemed to think. This recommended CD reissue adds a version of "Three Coins in the Fountain" from the same date, originally released on Another Workout, to the original LP program. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide

Henry "Hank" Mobley was born on July 7, 1930, in Eastman, GA.

End of status report

For some reason the EAC log file states that some tracks could not be verified as accurate since they do not occur in the freedb data base.
I double checked this and the freedb data base contains numerous files for "Workout". However, the same error keeps poppin' up. Guess I own a very unique copy of Hank Mobley's "Workout"...!
All files have been test downloaded by me and burned onto CD using Burrrn! software without any error whatsoever!

Thanks Goodspeed for this RVG recording/remaster. For good orders sake, RVG recorded in Hackensack (his home studio in the lĂving room of his parents !!!) from appr. 1952 till 1959. In 1959 he moved to Englewood Cliffs where this album was recorded.

This is a very nice, dynamic, not-too-bright master - Rudy Van Gelder could learn a thing or two from this before he puts out another over-EQ'd, over-compressed remaster. Thanks for sharing :)
