This installment in the Jazz Icons series of memorable jazz performances captures two concerts by legendary musician Erroll Garner recorded in 1963 and 1964. Some of the songs featured in the performances include I Get a Kick Out of You, Misty, Sweet and Lovely, and more. One of the most distinctive of all pianists, Erroll Garner proved that it was possible to be a sophisticated player without knowing how to read music, that a creative jazz musician can be very popular without watering down his music, and that it is possible to remain an enthusiastic player without changing one's style once it is formed.

Donald Harrison, who gained his initial recognition in the 1980s when he was with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and co-led a band with Terence Blanchard, has continued growing and evolving ever since that time. Though underrated, he is currently at the peak of his powers. Harrison worked with bassist Ron Carter, drummer Billy Cobham, and pianist James Williams in a 2002 quartet called the Art of Four. He reunites with Carter and Cobham for five selections on Heroes and also engages in three duets with the bassist. This CD is one of Donald Harrison's most rewarding showcases to date and is highly recommended.

EAC 0.99pb5 | FLAC Image level 8 | Cue+Log | Full Scans 300dpi | 376MB + 5% Recovery

Jeff once again takes some of his more popular tunes from the past, like "Wizard Island", "City" and "The Underground" and updates them with the new band. "Essentially this album is a part two", Lorber says. "It features the same rhythm section, but it's even more into the jazz fusion direction. It's more energetic and the performances are tighter." In total, 'Galaxy' includes 11 Jeff Lorber original compositions.

Pat Martino - Undeniable (2011)
MP3 320 kbps CBR | 58:59 min | 133 MB
Genre: Jazz | Label: HighNote

Long before he became a world renowned jazz guitarist Pat Martino was a sideman in small combos that prominently featured the Hammond B-3 organ. He's never lost his affection for that particular group dynamic so here Martino sounds perfectly content enhancing the rhythm section's soulful thrust while, at the same time, his post-bop, minor mode improvising is sleek and precise. A live recording with the full-throated tenor sax of Eric Alexander, drummer Jeff "Tain" Watts and Tony Monaco keeping the B-3 pedals to the metal, Undeniable promises to be one of 2011's most exciting releases.

Recorded January 13, 1969, this selection of old tunes, played by two old masters, and two younger guys, is a real delight. Buzzy Drootin is on drums; he played with many musicians, among them Nat Pierce; the well known Arvell Shaw plays bass; he's been for many years a member of Louis Armstrong's All Stars, and is still playing, even if he became blind. Claude Hopkins plays piano. Born in Washington DC, 1903, he was one of Harlem's favorite musicians in the thirties...

This fine 1956 date features Jackson leading a session that moves with ease and authority through a relaxing eight-minute ride on Charlie Parker's "Now's the Time," an Ellington ballad medley, and a pair of the vibist's own blues-based, hard bop compositions. The real treat here is Lucky Thompson's tenor sax.

Scott Henderson is a benchmark in the jazz fusion guitar world. He can just as easily lay down a mean blues lick or rock you hard, burning the frets like a wild man. Standing shoulder to shoulder, you have the creative genius and frenetic bounce of Gary Willis on bass with Scott Kinsey's inventive keyboard magic. Confidently, Kirk Covington pulls a polyrhythmic mixer out and drums away any doubts you may have about the power and grace of Tribal Tech.
