This unique combination of Ward Swingle and his "French Kisses" and the Modern Jazz Quintet is absolutely excellent. The tracks alternate between original compositions (all by John Lewis) and improvisations on themes of baroque composers, Bach and Purcell. The album was a 1967 Grammy award nominee.
