Genre: Jazz

This CD pairs two unusual Coltrane sessions made when Elvin Jones was absent from the saxophonist's quartet. His replacement on both occasions was the estimable Roy Haynes. A superb drummer who had worked regularly in the preceding years with Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, and Thelonious Monk, Haynes brought his own distinctive touch to the quartet's chemistry, an almost lacy dance around the beat and a lighter touch than Jones's powerful polyrhythms. The 1963 session produced "After the Rain," one of Coltrane's most majestic invocations, and "Dear Old Stockholm," the folk tune first recorded by Stan Getz. Here it receives an extended exploration of its minor mode, capped by a beautiful Coltrane cadenza. The 1965 session finds Coltrane in one of his most tumultuous periods, bringing singular intensity and convoluted invention to "After the Crescent" and "One Down, One Up," and meditative depth to "Dear Lord." Enjoy!

Sorry to see all such nice postings going to waste.

@Axellus
Thanks for visiting my friend, I think you are exaggerating when you say "Sorry to see all such nice postings going to waste". Please feel free not to download them if you feel so. Have a nice day!

Very nice post, aeolos! It's good hearing a coherent Coltrane before he went bonkers with his "free" style random noise.

@Axellus - Funny, but when I clicked on your link to learn the "correct" way to rip, I didn't see ANY posts whatsoever...nada, bupkis, nothing. It's always the non-contributing leeches who bitch the most about trivial matters that make no difference to the quality sound of a recording only to show their faux expertise. Poor schumck, life must be awfully boring for you:(

Great post, thanks! And this certainly is not a waste of a good post (Allexus!). However, he is particularly correct when mentioning that the audio cache defeat should be set to "Yes." This allows suitable checking and correction of errors. If the cache is not defeated it will not discover errors so you will always get a false high reading for quality. Please take this as friendly advice, not a criticism.
Having said that, we are assuming you ripped this - you may have found it and kindly decided to share! Either way THANK YOU! :)

@ LezDawson
Thank you my friend for your comment and time to do this. I am always taking under consideration your notes regarding the quality of my rips or any other suggestions. I remember the time I was doing ripping to my CDs with my good ole Plextor drives...in fact I still do some. Plextor drives - 716A, 755A, 760A - all had the audio cache defeat ON since it was detected by EAC. At that time I had people asking to put this option to NO!!! :)that's why I stopped ripping with my Plextors the CD's that I was posting here! I did the same ripping with cahe On & OFF but NO difference, and believe me I may not have the best HI-FI system in the world but I do own a very good one...
So I decided to ask further. Then I realized that not all drives support this feature. My Optiarc is one of them. So either I put yes or no it won't make any difference simply because the drive doesn't support it. The same goes with the C2 errors. Not ALL drives are the same! That's why you do the tests with EAC or any other software in that matter, to see your drives capabilities.
The author of EAC also is very clear as far as those feature are concerned. Anyone can read his guide and make up his mind for the better. That's all I did and I think I am doing well and trouble free rippings.
I do not want to sound negative but if someone's looking for perfection then there's only one way...He should own the original CD.
Having said that, yes you are right my friend LezDawson, I do myself the ripping of the CD's I post here. They are all part of my music library.

Once again thank you all for letting me know your likes and dislikes, but most of all the fact that you like (or not) the music I post. I will try to bring some more for your joy! (Come to think of it, do you think that the limited edition of the Coltrane Box-Set, 8 CD's, THE CLASSIC QUARTET-COMPLETE IMPULSE! STUDIO RECORDINGS would make sense to post it? Give me your thoughts...It cost me a fortune but that was worth it!
Cheers everyone!
