Lynyrd Skynyrd - Second Helping (1974) [2009. 24K Gold HDCD AFZ054]
Southern Rock | EAC Rip | wv cue log covers | 278MB
Audio Fidelity / AFZ 054

• 24k Gold CD
• Limited Uniquely Numbered Edition
• HDCD
• From original master tapes
• Mastered by Kevin Gray

Second Helping helped define and create the Southern rock movement
One of the finest of the Southern rock bands, Lynyrd Skynyrd's 1974 album follows the success of "Free Bird" and "Gimme Three Steps" from their 1973 debut and features their biggest hit single, "Sweet Home Alabama", an answer song to Neil Young's "Southern Man" and "Alabama". The song reached #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in August 1974. Second Helping also featured "Don't Ask Me No Questions," "Workin' for MCA," and "Call Me the Breeze," the latter of which includes an acclaimed piano solo.
Backed by a tight rhythm section and the mighty three-guitar attack of Allen Collins, Ed King, and Gary Rossington, singer Ronnie Van Zant turns in a legendary performance on the urgent blues ballad "I Need You," the cautionary "The Needle and the Spoon," and "The Ballad of Curtis Loew,"
With its fine writing and playing, and scores of hard-hitting Southern rock riffs and grooves,
Second Helping captures the band at the height of its powers and assured Skynyrd's ascendancy to rock stardom and FM radio immortality.

Audio Fidelity's 24K+ series brings you classic music in deluxe packaging with see through slip cases (ala DCC), using original graphics, all beautifully reproduced. Audio Fidelity only uses the original two track master tape which is played back on a specifically constructed vintage tube playback deck. Here's where the plus (+) comes in: The analog masters are put through AF's new proprietary A/D converter which adds true "breath of life" to the music, making the new 24K+ Gold CD series the best sounding music you can buy, period!

To my ears this sounds much less distorted and fatiguing than the mobile fidelity version. Thanks for a great post.
Maybe one day someone like pbthal, Dr. Robert or aksman will post a vinyl rip to compare.

the audio analogue versione seems to have more dinamic range than the MFSL version.
I still have to listen them on a verified setup.
