Backed by Nat Adderley on trumpet, Red Norvo on vibraphone, Horace Parlan on piano, Red Mitchell on bass and Ronnie Gardiner on drums, Benny Carter leads this lively sextet through a memorable program of standards from the Great American Songbook plus the jazz classics "Work Song" (which features Adderley singing the song for the very first time on record) and "Lover Man". The musicians on the session are clearly inspired by Benny's leadership and brilliant musicianship.
The great trombonist, J. J. Johnson once said of Benny Carter: "He is one of the greatest musicians I've ever had the pleasure of working with. The whole time I was in Benny's band, it was one continuous education in music."
