Randy Newman - Ragtime (Soundtrack)

The excelent Milos Forman film on the 1920's based on the Doctorow novel has a marvelous musical translation in this soundtrack close to perfection, two-Oscar-nominated in 1981 (best film score, best song). Wonderful melodies, great songs and all the ragtime pre-jazz era spirit.

Randy Newman had become a professional songwriter by the time he was seventeen. His first single as a performer was 1961's "Golden Gridiron Boy", released when he was eighteen. However, the single flopped and Newman chose to concentrate on songwriting and arranging for the next several years. "Ragtime" was the first full feature score composed by him.
