Originally conceived as a mere keyboard project in 2002, the first THEUDHO demo “Dies Natalis Solis Invicti” (2003) was released as a tribute to the last remaining stretches of European wilderness in northern and western Europe, seeking to immortalizing these diverse daunting primeval landscapes. It seemed only logical that lyrical inspiration was drawn from the myths, legends and lore that sprung from these very same lands.

Books is the third single from Belle & Sebastian's 2003 album Dear Catastrophe Waitress. "Wrapped Up in Books" comes from the album. The other three songs are exclusive to the EP. While the charming, low-key "Books" is a fine song, it is firmly in the B&S tradition. "Your Secrets" is also pretty typical fare, but very strong and catchy with the added perk of some lovely weeping pedal steel guitar. The real interesting track here is the mini-epic "Your Cover's Blown." It starts off as a slinky disco number with some wonderfully sexy vocals from Stuart Murdoch, has a lovely sunny chorus, and a spooky spy music bridge.

Even within the comparatively limited medium of the string quartet, Szymanowski creates characteristically rich and exotic texture in these original and tautly constructed works. They were written ten years apart in 1917 and 1927, demonstrating the way his style was developing ever more personally over that period. Occasionally echoing Debussy and Ravel, they make a pointful contrast with Stravinsky’s characteristically cryptic essays in the genre, sharp and often brittle. The Golden Quartet prove understanding, refined interpreters of both composers, playing with rapt intensity in the hushed slow movements of the Szymanowski works. Excellent sound.

Lennox Berkeley wrote his Piano Concerto in B flat major in 1947–48 for his loyal interpreter Colin Horsley, who gave the first performance in the Royal Albert Hall in London. The solo part combines a good deal of bravura writing, including several passages of double octaves, with simple, lyrical melodies, sometimes over a Chopin-like arpeggio accompaniment and sometimes played by the two hands in octaves. A convert to Roman Catholicism in his mid-twenties, Berkeley composed a good deal of music for worship, as well as several concert works on sacred or devotional texts. "Strix Maledictae In Aeternum", the new album from the Italian symphonic black metal band OPERA IX, will be released on January 24, 2012 in Europe and February 28, 2012 in North America via Agonia Records. The CD, which is described in a press release as "a great opera dedicated to the dark ages of medieval witchcraft," was recorded at the Occultum studios, owned by the OPERA IX guitarist Ossian, and was mastered at the Necromorbus Studio in Alvik, Sweden. The artwork was created by Kris Verwimp.
