Planxty was an Irish folk music band formed in the 1970s by:
Christy Moore, (Vocals, Acoustic Guitar, Bodhran)
Dónal Lunny (Bouzouki, Guitars),
Andy Irvine (Mandolin, Mandola, Bouzouki, Hurdy-Gurdy, Harmonica
Liam O'Flynn (Uilleann Pipes, Tin Whistle).
The name Planxty comes from a word used by the classic harper Turlough O'Carolan in many of his works, and is thought to mean a tribute to a particular person ("Planxty Irwin", for example, being a tribute to Colonel John Irwin of Sligo).
This is their 1st album from 1973 simply titled Planxty. It forms part of a series of posts of my collection of Celtic Music. Have a search for The Chieftains, The Dubliners, Horslips if you are interested in more.
The complete album is a little convulted in getting as “The Deleter” is about. Please don’t post this link or any of the subsequent ones on the open as they will disappear very rapidly. You will enjoy what you find when you get to then end, another of my little bonuses
