Eternal - Power Of A Woman (1995)

With Louise having shuffled off to a solo career of monumental irrelevance, the three remaining members of Eternal--Kèllè Bryan and sisters Easther and Vernie Bennett--regrouped and soldiered on, enlisting the same producers, Ronnie Wilson & Dennis Charles, who'd worked with them on their multi-platinum debut Always & Forever, in an attempt to recapture a little of that album's success. By and large, it worked--though, despite the presence of American influences (gospel legend BeBe Winans, R&B maestro Dallas Austin), they sounded, as ever, like nothing so much as a tamer, more distinctly British riposte to the likes of En Vogue. Still, that's not to deny the slick allure of "Who Are You" and the title track, or the unexpected gravity of their remake of Bob Marley's "Redemption Song". More of the same, perhaps--but that was probably the point. --Andrew McGuire
