| “ | The band's first record "Perfect Punishment" was made in 1986 in the infamous Spitbergen studio. It was an EP containing 6 songs. The second album was recorded in the band's own studio in Groningen in 1987. It was an old mansion called "Villa Volonte". The band took quite a risk by experimenting with a Fairlight computer since they were very enthousiastic about its possibilities and the final result. They named their newborn baby after their studio, "Villa". In 1988 and 1989 "Casa" (LP) and "Casa Grande" (CD) were subsequently released. Again two Waikiki productions in which their house played an important role. After the Casa releases the band went on tour for a couple of years; during the summer abroad and during the winter in the Dutch club circuit. Memorable performances by the band were given in Russia, along the Wolga river from moscow down to the Caspian Sea, sometimes for audiences over 10,000 people. All this touring had a down side. Relationships came under pressure and left scars and also the original line up began to fall apart. Tom Holkenborg for instance left the band to form Nerve and, at a later stage, Junkie XL. He did however produce Waikiki's last CD so far, "Sputnik" in 1994. Weekend At Waikiki has never been officially discontinued, but has been inactief for a couple of years now. The 25th anniversary however had been a stepping stone for a number of reunion concerts in the spring of 2009, mostly performed in the northern provinces. | ” |
