Born as Adionilla Negrini Pizzi in Sant'Agata Bolognese, she was particularly famous in Italy during the 1950s and 1960s. She won the Sanremo festival in 1951, singing "Grazie dei fiori", and again in 1952, singing "Vola colomba".

This album covers a variety of r&b styles from the catchy Diana Ross sound of "Be my baby", sixties pop of "Sunday Mondays" to the rousing gospel sound of "Just as long as you are there" and the soul of "Your love has got a handle on my mind." There are a couple of nice ballads too. The Velvet Underground's "I'm waiting for my man" may seem an odd choice for squeaky-clean Vanessa (I wonder did she understand it fully?)but it sounds good. If you're looking for an introduction to Vanessa Paradis but are put off by French, this is her only all English album.

Every song on the album shows a newfound maturity, and Tiffany has put in a lot of thought(and her own songwriting) into this masterpiece. I hope this album becomes very popular because it is deserving of a whole new audience. And in a current musical system where young girls are showing more skin than actual talent, "The Color of Silence" should appeal to the music lovers who seek more substance rather than style. Some great tracks include: "Open My Eyes", "Silence", "Good Enough for Me", "Butterfly", "Piss U Off", and "All the Talking."
