Under the Influence of Alice: Music Inspired by the Classic Tale collects 12 disparate cuts inspired in one way or another by Lewis Carroll's iconic 1865 fantasy novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Beginning appropriately with Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit," which is followed immediately by a capable but forgettable cover of Tom Petty's "Don't Come Around Here No More" by indie soul singer/songwriter David Moore, Under the Influence leaps genres like an Olympic hurdler, leaving a vapor trail of goth punk (the Cure, Sisters of Mercy), alternative rock (Flaming Lips, Jesus and Mary Chain), celebrity pop (Scarlett Johansson), and English folk (Incredible String Band) that dutifully mimics the sensation of falling down the rabbit hole.

The follow-up EP to Relient K's breakthrough album, MMHMM, 2005's APATHETIC finds the Ohio Christian pop-punk band mixing new songs with acoustic renditions of tunes from earlier outings. In 1980, Sven Dohrow and Ronny Schreinzer decided to put a new band together, after they had played in various bands as a guitar-player and a drummer. In the beginning they were inspired by bands like Tubeway Army, Gary Numan, OMD and Depeche Mode. The name "TWINS" might sound a bit funny for english speaking fans because Sven and Ronny are definitely no twins (you guessed it, Einstein) and the name itself isn't very ingenious.......

Aqua was a Scandinavian dance/pop group, best-known for their 1997 breakthrough single "Barbie Girl". The group formed in 1994, and achieved huge success across the globe in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Although often criticised by the media, the group managed to top the United Kingdom singles chart with their first three singles, a feat few artists have achieved. The group released two albums, Aquarium in 1997 and Aquarius in 2000, before finally splitting up in July 2001. The group sold an estimated 28 million albums and singles.

American expatriate Joe Dassin was one of France's most popular singers during the late '60s and '70s, initially building his name with stylized adaptations of folk and country material from his birthplace. As his career blossomed, Dassin turned increasingly to traditional-style chansons penned by some of the genre's best writers, scoring an all-time classic with his 1975 smash "L'Ete Indien." Notorious for his perfectionism, Dassin could play the introverted romantic, but his persona also played off of American archetypes and imagery. His premature death of a heart attack in 1980 robbed French pop of one of its greatest modern-day practitioners.
