As you all know, Alexander Pope [1688-1744] wrote that 'Every Lady would be Queen for Life'. I cannot go all the way with Alex in this matter - 'for life' is a bit strong - but certainly agree that a brush with royalty (not to mention royalties) is irresistible. A most enjoyable way to achieve this is through the songs of Queen...

Elaine Paige.

When I bought this CD as soon as it came out in 1988, I was not looking for it in particular. I was looking for other types of releases by Elaine Paige. To be honest, with the title "The Queen Album", I never really thought it would be a cover of ten songs previously released by Queen. Strictly speaking, I never saw Elaine Paige in the vests of Queen or stage rock or anything like that, having been used to see her singing in more composed roles suitable for her voice as in Cats, or Piaf, or Les Miserables. But, well, I bought the CD, having taken the tube all the way to Tottenham Court Road. I did not want to go home empty-handed. And what a surprise awaited me!

For die-hard Queen fans, you will find that you either love or hate some tracks. A friend of mine considered Bohemian Rhapsody a kind of a joke but commented fairly well on the other tracks. Bohemian Rhapsody is an experiment that spans the classical to the burlesque as, Queen, initially, spanned the variety of musical taste in just one song. A huge amount of choral and orchestral work has gone into Bohemian Rhapsody.

You will definitely see how fresh Radio Ga Ga with original BBC radio cuts included can be, evoking that very same nostalgia for the Radio that many started feeling once it sunk into the lowest place for listenership.

My favourites remain Who Wants To Live Forever? for its ethereality, One Year Of Love for its delicate beauty and Is This The World We Created? for its poignancy.

PLEASE NOTE:
For some strange reason, Track 8 - One Year Of Love rips badly in batch but OK on its own. For this reason you have to download this track [included in the folder] separately. Please read the information within the folder. Thanks for understanding!

Enjoy!
