Rickie Lee Jones - Rickie Lee Jones (1979)
breezy jazz rock | CBR 320 kbps | mp3 | 101 mb

My favourite in the 80's and still a favourite in 2006. 502s or 504s, whatever, I just got to share this with you all. Music that sounds like it was produced just last week, simply difficult to believe that this was recorded back in 1979!

One of the most impressive debuts for a singer/songwriter ever, this infectious mixture of styles not only features a strong collection of original songs (the hits are "Chuck E's in Love" and "Young Blood, " but "Danny's All-Star Joint" and "Coolsville" are just as good) but also a singer with a savvy, distinctive voice that can be streetwise, childlike, and sophisticated, sometimes all in the same song. - allmusic.com

The breezy melodies and jazz stylings of Rickie Lee Jones's debut album are usually found in the works of more mature pop artists. It's only the exuberance of Jones's often cackling voice that reminds you that a 23-year-old is at the controls. And Jones's "little girl lost" perspective, while hanging out in mid-1970s Los Angeles with neo-Beat songwriters-barroom troubadours Tom Waits and Chuck E. Weiss, makes for colorful storytelling. In fact, her tale about Weiss, "Chuck E.'s in Love," hit the Top 10. But there's a lot more elegant stuff here: "Last Chance Texaco" is a soaring ballad about automobiles and broken hearts, and the Sinatra-esque "After Hours" features a lonely Jones singing to a lamppost. - Bill Crandall

Track List:

01 - Chuck E 's In Love
02 - On Saturday Afternoons In 1963
03 - Night Train
04 - Young Blood
05 - Easy Money
06 - The Last Chance Texaco
07 - Danny's All-star Joint
08 - Coolsville
09 - Weasel And The White Boys Cool
10 - Company
11 - After Hours
+ Cover

It took me a while to hunt down this cd version of my favourite long gone vinyl. I hope you'll enjoy listening to Rickie's best like I do!

Ah, it's public now. Great!

It's hard to write my TNX Mojabe here :-) But at least I will not repeat what I wrote to him tonight when he told me what he is uploading.

To make it short, he upped exatly what I preapred to rip during the next days. (yes, Serial, that's why I was testing the new version of LAME).

I have a very close relation to this one, because it was the first CD I did buy, same day as I bought my first CD player. And besides the great music, it is a real great recording. Whenever I did test some loudspeakers or other Hifi equipment I had this CD with me.

OK, sniff, at least it was Mojabe and not Serial or even Alejx who kicked my ass :-))

For everyone not knowing this album: DOWNLOAD IT. NOW!

Good album but if you want to hear a couple of great albums dig up what Chuck E (from Chuck E's In Love) is doing -- it's Extremely Cool!
And as an added bonus the third member of that periods troika -- the Raindog himself will growl a tune or two.

It has been a real pleasure to be the first one to bring it here.

Sorry bully, but thanks is also in place. Despite you are behind in your page processing, you took the time to comment and support this post. Cheers to your memory of your 1st CD and 1st CD PLAYER! And Thank You.

@ Mojabe

No need for sorry and no need for TNX. You just had the same idea at same time and not such a snail processing as me :-) And, as I wrote in private, you spared me the time of ripping, tagging, upping and publishing. You did a perfect rip, so I can use my time for somthing else, better than ripping :-)))
We have to thank you for this wonderful gift.

PS: Might it be you still have an unread mail from Feb 4th? :-)
