| “ | A short, brilliant slice of Stereolab. This is a limited-edition 4-song tour single from '99, but these songs are fantastic and need to be exposed to a wider audience! What you get are four tracks of energetic bubbly-synths and funky, hooky melodies. Lead-off track "The Super-it" perfectly encapsulates their knack for super-catchy grooves, this time featuring some shimmering woodwinds, which soar alongside Laetitia and Mary's vocals. Next up is the instrumental "Fried Monkey Eggs" which could be their most outright funky song, with the keyboards put through the wahwah/envelope-filter machine like never before. The b-side presents us with the vocal version of "Fried Monkey Eggs", and wraps it up in the stunning, sultry slow-jam of "Monkey Jelly". Whatever the significance of "monkeys" is on these songs is lost on me, but it sure sounds great! | ” |
