Long out of print and a much sought-after collector’s item, this early 1970’s album by the legendary Chuck Berry includes a thrilling three-song set recorded live in England. One side studio recording, the other side a live recording, "The London Chuck Berry Sessions" spawned Berry’s only number one hit single (an edited version of the live version of “My Ding-A-Ling”) and was his highest charting album, at #8.
Issued originally on Chess Records (catalog # 60020) in May 1972, the three live tracks were recorded at the Locarno Ballroom in Coventry, England on Feb. 3, 1972 as part of the Lanchester Polytechnic College Arts Festival. The opening act was David Bowie, the closing act was Pink Floyd.
This is the 1989 Chess/MCA CD issue with complete booklet scans from my personal CD collection.
