Sabicas with Joe Beck - Rock Encounter (1970) [Reissue 2006]
EAC Rip | FLAC (image+.cue+log) - 321 MB | Covers includes
Genre: Flamenco Rock, Progressive Rock | RAR 3% Rec. | Label: Long Hair (LHC00048)

An unique and very interesting musical project from 1966, probably the first musical encounter between flamenco and rock music! In those days Joe Beck was a respected composer and rock guitarist, he had played in symphonic orchestras and performed with the top names in rock and jazz (from Tim Hardin to Steve Gadd). After making the album Middle Eastern Rock with Oud player John Berberian, Joe's producer Harvey Cowen suggested Joe to do the same with flamenco and rock. He succeeded to recruit flamenco guitar legend Sabicas (1912-1990), thanks to Sabicas' brother Diego because he wanted Sabicas to scout the musical boundaries.

Rock / Experimental Rock / Prog Rock / Fusion

In the early '80s a loose aggregate of musicians -- many of whom were former Mothers Of Invention (MOI) -- began performing as the Grandmothers. The band centred on the talents of seminal Frank Zappa sidemen Jimmy Carl Black (percussion/vocals/Indian of the group), Bunk Gardner (sax/trumpet/flute) and Don Preston (keyboards). At various points prior to this union the trio were joined by a laundry list of relatively unknowns as well as other Mothers such as Denny Walley (guitar), Elliot Ingber (guitar), Ray Collins (vocals) and Jim "Motorhead" Sherwood (bass) as well as ex-Love member Tjay Cantrelli (sax/flute) plus (should one wish to further the Zappa affiliations) both Tom Leavey and Andy Cahan (drums) from Flo & Eddie's band . This 21-track compilation includes recordings made primarily in the early '70s from a number of MOI alumni and their respective collaborators.

2007 digitally remastered reissue of this 1976 solo album from the Gong leader. In 1975, following his departure from Gong, the highly influential group he had founded, Daevid Allen sought musical solace in the village of Deja on the island of Mallorca. Here he encountered a group of Catalan musicians, Euterpe, with whom Allen began a collaboration. Recorded in Mallorca, this album was released by Virgin Records to great acclaim, being a unique work that was regarded by fans and critics as being equally as good as anything he recorded with Gong, if not better.

Midnight Circus - Midnight Circus (1972) [Reissue 2003]
EAC Rip | FLAC (image+.cue+log) - 298 MB | MP3 CBR 320 kbps (LAME 3.93) - 132 MB | Covers includes
Genre: Progressive Folk Rock | RAR 3% Rec. | Label: Citystudio Media Production (CMP 602-2)

A very obscure and difficult to locate album produced in Germany in the early-70's. This is a dreamy progressive folk album that appears to be a duo augmented by sessions musicians (in the manner of Witthuser + Westrupp but with vocals sung in English). The album does venture out into a tougher rock sound at times while at others it will float on a bed of mellotron sound which hazily recalls the sound of early King Crimson or The Moody Blues. A very interesting and rare album which is well worth a listen.

Daevid Allen - Banana Moon (1971) Reissue 1995
EAC | FLAC | Image (Cue&Log) ~ 253 Mb (incl 5%) | Mp3 (CBR320/Stereo) ~ 102 Mb (incl 5%) | Scans included
Genre: Art Rock, Prog Rock, Psychedelic, Canterbury Scene | Label: Spalax | # 14945 | Time: 00:38:32

This is Allen's first solo album which he recorded years after leaving the legendary Soft Machine and soon after forming the anarchic, experimental and drug-inspired ensemble Gong. The album's highlights include the moody 'Memories' with Robert Wyatt on vocals, one of the finest tracks to come out of the so-called 'Canterbury Sound', and the rocking opener 'Time Of Your Life' is a showcase for Allen's guitar pyrotechnics.
