their best album in the best quality on avax, sorry CrewZ, but 192Khz should enlarge the gap between CD and LP even more:)
I didn't thank you moulder for the DSOTM (maybe because it is just "another" version to collect) but I definitely want to say great thanks for this gem.
I somehow can't get it with "Dr. Ebbetts" releases (or processing), seems too much "other" altering for me.
The server 698.rapidshare.com is momentarily not available. We are aware of this and are working to get this resolved.
all other parts downloaded right, just the number 12 is sadly "down" and I can't go to sleep until I listen to it :D
just to let you know if you have time for number 12 upload...who knows how long it will take till RS will repair its server
edit: from the .ape files bunch ( _not_ from the DVD audio )
...And I wasn't referring to my thread, I was referring to Dr. Robberts.
CrewZ :)
your collection of uploads CrewZ is awesome btw, must _love_ Japan don't you? :)
I am almost embarrassed to show up here in your presence. You had to beat me and the other vinyl rippers to it. I just paid for a "mint" copy of Abbey Road an hour ago. I was all prepared to do my own rip if no one else stepped to the plate (with my new $700 Pro-Ject II Se preamp). I am sure you knocked it out of the park. Oh well, I guess I'l just have to listen to the Abbey Road LP I just bought it all by myself. I'll download your Abbey Road and keep it as the benchmark. It would take me years of saving to match your hardware specs.
You don't happen to have UHQR Sgt Pepper. Can you believe I sold my absolute mint copy with out making one of my modest rips. Your work has always been brilliant. After hearing your Dark Side of the Moon I tossed my rip in the Trash.
Oh and one more thing is your rip from the box or is it the original 1979 single release.
If you are referring MY (Dr. R) sloppy edit at the start of my Pepper rip "A Day In the Life". I am out of town since Friday and don't have a access to the files. I am on the road and downloading the post and uploading the fix is not practical. Should be back home tomorrow PM (Pacific Time US), but I said that to my family Sunday.
My LP is a "single" version, and the 1-023 number indicates it. The rip was done at the first and only play of this MINT LP, and after ripping the LP was sealed hermetically for the future times ;-)
I'm trying to do the best ;-) For a some period there will be no new rips - I will share only the old ones done before, - just because now I'm doing a very serious upgrade to the all ripping gears (more than $42000 for the parts only). It will take some (maybe very long) time, but I asshure you, that the result will be outstandingly audible) After that I will re-rip this beautiful LP, so anyone could hear the Real Sound ;-)
No, no, no, I was talking about rapidshare server itself, not your stuff!
all you need is love (and a patience;)
Shame on you, pussy cat ;-) I'm making system for myself, and my good will is that I'm sharing the rips I've done.
@ the rest. My Goland Audio DVD creator only does 96K so I'm off to grab the iso.
@ moulder. Is your iso a universal DVD or DVD Audio only? I can play both so I'm just curious. Thanks.
}---:)
P.S. This sounds awesome on my PC. Can't wait to play it on my stereo this evening
Since I was a kid (I am 52) I have always recorded my LP's. Whether it was cassettes, reel to reel or now with a "cheap" DAC, this is another thing that keeps me occupied from time to to time and brings me joy. I have some free time in semi-retirement and money to do the things I enjoy. Once I have taken time to rip and edit a LP it is easy to share.
It has been those here at AvaxHome who have made the time to share what they have such as moulder, that gave me enough new and familiar music to hear that good vinyl is better than little silver (or gold) discs. I have perhaps $7000 to play with my first upgrade since 1992. If moulder in his old age has $42,000 to drop, more power to him. Some of us can afford a Rolls, others a Mercedes, me a 10 year old Infiniti and others have only a new KIA. I paid less money for my mint Q45 than a new KIA. But me and my 200 new friends have the room to cruise around in style.
I wish I had found avaxhome a year ago before I dumped all my vinyl. I now just have to pull out the Eight Grand I made last year and see if I can be so lucky as to buy back mint titles of truly mint LP's others now own.
Well, the rest of us appreciate the effort at least. I'm eager to try this out. Thanks to those of you who contribute more than trolling.
There is no need to knock down those whose passions you do not share.
would you mind to tell me what Denon Cartridge you've mounted on the J.A.Mitchell?
I'm somewhat confused about the Frequeny range from 17Hz to 57kHz with +/- .5 dB. I didn't know of any Cartridge with such a frequency response.
Btw, this rip sounds wonderfull
You might still do your own 24/96 rip of Abbey Road, I think? Perhaps there are more like me who cannot play/burn a 24/192...downloading 3GB just to downsample it is a bit of a waste
@:askman: the Denon DLS1 has a frequency range of 20Hz-70kHz, the only one in the line that goes that far up AFAIK. I have their classic DL103 (20Hz-45,000kHz)as a nice & relatively inexpensive ($250) backup to my Zyx, which has a range of 10Hz-100kHz.
@:Dr. Robert: past experience has taught me never to feed trolls; they're like nasty pigeons...once you feed them a bread crumb, the entire flock descends upon you. Give them even more and they'll follow you home! There's no need to justify yourself or actions to faceless, nameless entities. Enjoy what you're doing and don't take this nonsense personal in such a non-personal medium.
@all: to lighten things up a bit, I thought I'd share this entertaining video from YouTube, apropos of these audiophile discussions:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xs1aUws0Lrs
Hah! Awesome. Definitely people who take it to the crazy place, but at least these folks seem good-natured about it. I've met some truly conceited audiophiles that showed me and my novice equipment a great deal of disrespect, which pretty much ruined my love of the hardware side. I do still enjoy listening, even if it's just with modest equipment that 99% of the population would still consider excessive.
@moulder
Part way through the download, and so far it sounds fantastic. Thank you!
Yes, the total frequency response is that high, but it is 20Hz - 20kHz within +/- 1 dB...
http://www.moving-coil-cartridges.com/zyx_specs.htm
@ponchoman: You're correct, all come off pretty affable, if not a a wee bit over-the-top compulsive about their hobby; though I wonder how they'd react off-camera if someone criticized one of their components or sound. But I believe a healthy passion is good for folks, too much angst going around these days. And if they can afford it, what the heck...why not?
LOL If someone ever thinks I am compulsive about my hobby, now I can show some real boys and their big toys.
@ d'Avignon - Most definitely. But my iTunes pays moulder's 192 kHz just peachy. You just need to convert to WAV or AIFF. After that then let iTunes convert to Apple Lossless. At least one of the popular Windows players should play 192 kHz WAV's. If not get iTunes, it does windows too.
@tubert
It is the DVD-Audio only, and it can be played on DVD-Audio capable player.
@aksman
It is customly rebuild Denon DLS1 with the special needle from Naoki Shibata. And all other gears are also custom - you can't buy them in the nearby shop.
@rainbow88
Shame on you, pussy cat, once again ;-) Many avaxians here are still on low bandwidth connection and are unable to download 200 Mb files...
@Dr. Robert
So now you completely know how to spend your money for making 32 bit 256 kHz rips) I'm just saying that 24/192 is quite enough for natural transfer of the Music, and 32/256 are somehow excessive... And - do you know, that iTunes downsamples Top Sound to 24/96 even with external DAC's? And that native Mac is unable to play anything higher than 24/96? Every conversion is a killer for the emotional sequence of the Music, and it should be played ONLY in 24/192!
You could use the freeware tool Medieval CUE Splitter for splitting.
It can be downloaded at http://www.medieval.it/content/view/28/71
Never read anything so pretentious!!!
My vote of respect goes to Aksman , there's a guy that knows how to handle himself :)
You can learn about inner peace from him people
Big thanks to ALL the posters :)
Nothing pretentious, only facts ;-) Those guys who are downsampling Top Sound into CD-DA or anything alike are destroying it! They should use DVD-A instead ;-)
Anyway, maybe it is better to stop flaming, and just listen to the Music?-)
About 32/256k. Dear Lord I don't own ANYTHING that would play that!
About 192K sampling rate. This doesn't just extend the top end, it increases the RESOLUTION of ALL frequencies.
@moulder: Thanks for the DVDA ISO. I just upgraded my stereo for the first time in 15 years 3 weeks ago with a Denon SACD/DVDA DVD player and a Music Fidelity V-DAC. I was going to send the Denon back and use the V-dac on a cheap DVD player that won't play DVDA. Sure am glad I kept the Denon as I can't find a program to convert the 192k to a universal Audio DVD.
And again, thanks to ALL of you vinyl rippers. I'm 56 and will NEVER be able to afford 10% of the equipment some of you use so I REALLY appreciate the care and TIME you guys spend sharing these wonderful rips.
}---:)
tube wonders: Or the deck it was recorded on in the first place with the original bias settings, azimuth adjustments and heads with the same gap? Well, as all I have is what I have, I'll be happy to be with what I have to be happy with. I'm a bit new to these parts so please direct me to some of the Otari Displays DTR-900 half-track/30 ips machine rips you have shared as I'd love to hear them and don't see any.
I haven't posted anything here because the format still freaks me out and I doubt anybody wants to hear my Dual 1219 with the bad idle wheel that "thumps" every time it goes around OR my old Wollensak 1/4 inch four track mono tapes I made with a microphone off the radio when I was a kid anyway?
@Kel bazar. You know I love your rips and can't wait for more but, downsampling sucks. When I first started downing 24/96 vinyl rips I had to convert then to 16bit to play on my stereo and, it sucked.
@all: Let's not forget, analog has an infinite sampling rate so the higher we get the more we should enjoy...
...no?
Nuttin' but LOVE to avax!
P.S. So who's holding back on the Kinks?
To make up for my lame humour here is some hi rez photos on the front and back covers (5MB) http://rapidshare.com/files/264288425/MFSL_1-023_Artwork.rar
It's your opinion, and it is all yours. But if you don't understand something, it is not the reason for the obstruction of these ideas.
So - let the Music play, and let it be ;-)
@all
BTW, now I've got NOS Denon DL1000 head with the brand new needle - and it will be installed in the shell after upgrading turntable and tonearm.
Why do you even care? His vinyl rips sounds fantastic. I personally don't care if he used needle and thread connected to an SB16 soundcard, as long as it sounds good to me.
If you don't like it, don't bother downloading it, nobody is forcing you.
@moulder
Your rips are excellent, I and many others enjoy them a lot, so thanks!
He does not have equipment on what he can hear this rip in an original format. Therefore he so is intolerable.
He can be regretted only. He cannot hear magnificence of it rip.
Anyhow, I have a little issue in converting the files for iTunes (I will burn a DVD-A as soon as I'll can but for now I want to convert into Apple Lossless). I am on a mac and I use XLD wich works really fine in the other cases. But here, only the 5 first song are converted correctly, the other are just piece of "Come together" and n° 6 just doesn't work (XLD display a duration of -16 min - 57 sec...)
I'm not sure I am clear (my english is pretty bad) and maybe nobody nows how to fixe that.
(is it normal to have 1 cue file for 2 ape file ?)
@ Dr. Robert : If your feel like uploading your realese too I would be glad to downloading it anyway.
We will never thank you enough to share such great music with us. To all avax uploaders, thank you so much.
You can convert ape files into wavs first, and then into apple format. But the best way is to use BootCamp ;-)
iTunes downsamples 24/192 to 24/96, so you won't be able to listen to it in the full quality...
In fact I manage to do something by changing the cue file. It seems to be working.
Thanks a lot, the sound is amazing even for my little inexperienced ears !!
iTunes is tempory, I expect to burn it as soon as I get a new DVD burner... (and it may downsamples it but it is still about 5300 kbps instead of 2000 kbps for 24/96 and 800 kbps for usual lossless so it must be a little better).
I really didn't believe in all the hype about such high bitrates as 192, but this made me change my point of view.
I can't say for sure if it is the high bitrate or the ultra audiophile gear you've used (or both), but what I can say for sure is that this morning's listening of Abbey Road was a new experience for me.
Thanks moulder!.... Thanks a lot for the amazing experience I have just gone through!
I'm trying to do the best...)
Do not drag or double click on the cue file. The same thing happened to me. Instead double click on each side's APE file. The apes have an embedded cue that will add each side to iTunes at 24/192 properly. XLD will display "Cue sheet is embedded in this file. Do you want to read it?" Click OK. Check to see that "Include pregap in the end of the previous track" is selected, then click Decode. You'll be grooving in style. If you want wavs for making your DVD-A do the same thing, just tell XLD to output WAV.
Let XLD do the coverting to Apple Lossless, AIFF or Wavs. Select a converted sound in iTunes (file menu, get info, summary tab) and you will see it is 24/192 @ about 5300-5500 kbps for Apple Lossless or 9216 kbps for AIFF. Want to play this excellent rip on your iPod. use iTunes to do 16/48 AAC.
the real thing.Only a well mastered dvd audio or sacd release could top this althought i doubt it.Thanks.
I was ready to surgically compare it to the others, but... from the very first moments my speakers started blasting "Come Together" I knew something new was happening here!
How can it be possible?
I will do another rip of MFSL Abbey Road after re-building my system. Just for comparison ;-)
Thanks Dr. Robert and moulder for your high fidelity uploads!
If you're asking about DVD-Audio, you can burn it in your favorite burning program, even in Nero)
And if you're talking about APE files - they are not for burning, they are for listening)
i have lots of yours lp rips.(and from others sources)
if you use a great cartridge or a hammer i don't mind because...
THE SOUND IS FANTASTIC!!!...ALWAYS.
(well, this message can go to the vampires trying to remove the bright of yours works)
@ all
if you're interested to play DVD-A(from Audio-ts folder or ISO) in pc, use ShaPLAY(is free, search in doom9 forum)
cheers brothers and thanks, stay shinning! :-)
@ moulder, extremely well done work on DSOTM and am working on AR at this moment. The DSOTM waveform is simply beautiful in Adobe Audition. ALL waveforms should look this perfect! Haven't listened beyond headphones yet but hope to soon. I was wondering if instead of D/Ling the DVD-A, convert the APE files back to WAV and let LPLEX make the DVD-A. Do you see a problem sonically doing that? BTW, most of the people here get the hi-res concept and that's why they come here, but I'll never understand what part of the human condition draws rednecks to a Chopin recital when they hate (actaully don't understand) classical music, then they try to disrupt the rest of the audience. People stumbling through their nowhere lives, abandonly bashing into what they'll never have or appreciate for themselves. Case in point:
rainbow88 said the following BS:
"If shooting big juicy fish in a barrel for fun is trolling, then so be it. Some people's "gifts" are others' amusement, isn't that what it's all about?"
So you're here for amusement. Then let's have some fun my mental pygmie. You were beat up alot as a child weren't you? The only difference now is you like to stir up controversy behind the annonymity of the net, believing you're safely out of range. A pathetic, lonely (and mistaken) coward.
"Does anyone challenge this BS (bad grammar notwithstanding), or just let it ride because everyone wants to be "polite?"
No one here is being "polite", just genuine. I'm a polite person as well as genuine. The polite part has reasonable patience with morons. The genuine part calls you out as the ass that you are. Your adversarial attitude is unwanted here and likely most other places where intelligent discussions and exchanges take place. I say it's upbringing and serious lack of discipline. What wasn't learned easy as a child will be ten fold harder as an adult, given you're an adult. It sucks to be you.
Care to continue? I don't mind acting like a spoilt brat for a little while, because I can leave it anytime, while you're stuck there, lol!. Are you amused enough yet? ;-)
I've never experienced problems with DVD-A created by myself ;-)
And I just recommend you to try opensource program 'DVD-A author package' - just because it does the best ;-)
Thank you all so much.
Btw; Some people here are rich enough to share what money can buy..
others are poor enough to say thank you, and simply critize.
I wasn't concerned that your DVD-A would be a problem, I was hoping to save 3GB by creating the DVD-A from what I already had by converting the APE to WAV and making the DVD-A with LPLEX. I realize now that LPLEX is only DVD-V, so I would missing the 192kHz capability the DVD-A would deliver. I'll also look at 'DVD-A author package', thanks for the tip! ;-)
I also wanted to add a link for those that might drop by and wonder why record at 24/192kHz when we can only hear up to 20kHz, or our stereos don't spec that high, or the micrphones, cables, mixing board, preamps, etc. don't go that high... The webpage isn't highly scientific and it isn't an AES resource, but more of a one page "Why Hi-Res Recording". At the VERY least, you reduce interpolation, which is incredibly reason enough, but there's much more audible benefit and it is well documented from better esoteric sources. I'm not interested in convincing or converting anyone so the naysayers can do their own research, or better yet, stay away and come back once you've figured it out and can be appreciative. For the curious who'd like a simple example of why these 24/192 recordings are capable of capturing more information, look at this page for an oversimplified example. If you don't buy it, save bandwidth and hard drive space and stick with 16/44. It's a free world ;-): http://www.channld.com/vinylanalysis1.html
great sound !!
But part 31, 32, 33, 34 (DVD-Audio) have been deleted from rapidshare :(
Does someone can re-upload these parts ??
Thanks a lot !!!!
Links updated ;-)
It looks like EMI is on the look out for any Beatles rips posted on Avax Home. The new CD' come out on 9/9/09 so that's got them watching. My recent Beatles were killed today along with the new links. Kel bazar's Let it Be Naked was also shot dead. So if anyone see's any live Beatles links you better grab them fast with a premium account because EMI has lawyers working overtime to kill these posts.
Does it help if neither the artist name or title is spelled out in the link? I noticed the Rolling Stones Japan Mini LP Remasters (UICY) were all ok until Let It Bleed and Beggars Banquet. They were the only 2 that had the names spelled out. Coincidence?
In addition to thanking you for this wonderful post, I want to thank you for your help on converting it to a lossless format that the iPod can play. I have been trying many different converters on Windows because when I tried to sync the original AIIFs or WAVs, iTunes said iPod couldn't play them. Foobar couldn't convert to AAC because the sample rate is more than 44kHz and I believe Nero encoder can't handle it. I've spent hours reading forum entries and downloading various software and nothing worked. Then I decided to see if others might be having the same problem on this post. After all, it isn't every day someone gets to download a 24-bit 192 kHz rip. Sure enough there was and you pointed out that iTunes itself could do it. I never would have thought that. The only thing I found a little confusing at first was your advice to "use iTunes to do 16/48 AAC". I'm sure now you meant AIFF not AAC because AAC settings don't allow a choice of bit depth and don't allow 48 kHz sampling either. The AIFF settings allow up to 16-bit depth and up to 48 kHz sampling rate so that's the codec to choose for others having the same problem. BTW, anyone wanting to do this conversion needs to know you have to first set these parameters by going to Edit->Preferences, click on the General tab, then click 'Import Settings'. Then choose 'Import Using: AIFF Encoder' from the pulldown menu. 'Setting: Custom' from the second pulldown. Then 'Sample Rate: 48.000 kHz', 'Sample Size: 16-bit'. Then click OK, OK, OK. Done. Now you can select the WAV or AIFF files you imported into iTunes and right-click and choose 'Create AIFF Version'. iTunes will do the conversion and they will now be playable in your iPod. Fantastic. I can hardly wait to listen to them tonight. BTW this is for iTunes on Windows. I don't know if the OS/X version is different but it can't be THAT different.
Even downsampling is not Ok, but for iPod it is the only way.
Please inform us about your impressions ;-)
I guarantee that you've never heard anything alike before (even 09.09.09 stereo remaster doesn't sound better).
creator cannot burn these rips. i cannot even play these rips in my computer using foobar and
winamp. is there any application where i can play these rips.
thanks and more power.
Thank You!
I got the ape file.
Iso must be incredible but I don't have a real dvd-audio player.
What's MD5 file for?
You can't burn them into DVD-Video without downsampling. For DVD-Audio creation you should first decode apes to wavs ;-) And if your computer can't play these ape files, it just means that your sound card doesn't support 24/192 mode, or your version of ape decoder is not up-to-date. You should check and upgrade your equipments first ;-)))
@bob patiño
.md5 files are checksums for the archives. They can show, what parts are downloaded corrupted and should be fixed or re-downloaded.
BTW, it is better for all to buy a universal BluRay player, which can play not only BluRay Audio, but DVD-Audio and SACD as well - in this case there will be no problem to listen to Top Sound ;-)
Thanks for answering.
That's true, I heard about the oppo player who plays dvd-audio.
Moulder i got another question, I've been trying burning these 24/96 vinyl rips with audio-dvd creator but I just can't do it. When the burning gets 100% there´s an error message saying that the dvd couldn´t be burned, the error´s # is 2018.
Hope you can help me, I´ve been trying burning the same dvd like 10 times... but always the same.
I don't know if this can help, but when I click "next" (to go to the -create- window) theres another message and says "cdwritwerpro burning engine is not working" or somthing like that.
Then, I tried with Apollo but when i click "burn dvd" button the apollo's window just disappears and the dvd can´t be burned.
Anyway, this is kind of frustrating, please help.
Sorry if my english isn´t understandable.
Well, first of all - this is not 24/96 - but 24/192 ;-)
The second one - if you've downloaded the DVD-Audio image file, the best way to burn it is to use ImgBurn [http://www.imgburn.com] - probably the best ISO burner ever ;-)
And if you're trying to create the DVD-Audio image from .ape files, you should decode them to wav's first, and the program I recommend to use is DVD-Audio Tools [http://dvd-audio.sourceforge.net].
Right, I made the downsample to 24/96 and converted them to wave, [talking about the ape. files; I did not donwloaded the ISO]then i tried tu burn the dvd with audio-dvd creator (and apollo too) and it didn't worked.
So, if I burn these waves with DVD-Audio Tools, can I play them on a regular dvd player, I mean does the dvd is going to burn on audio-dvd or dvd-audio format?. I´m telling you this, because my dvd player does not supports dvd-audio only format.
I´ll try with DVD-audio tools, and let's see what happens.
Thank you so much for helping me!! :)
-------------
Edit:
-On the -How-To- Section of dvd-audio tools says that it only works with dvd-audio only dvd players, so I don't think this will work in my case.
-Ok, then I tried with ImgBurn and I succeded making the iso file from the wave files, and succeded burning the iso into the dvd!. But when I put the dvd on the dvd player appears an error message that my player can't play it :(
Then i played it on my built-in-dvd lcd player, and it shows the menu, but I can't play the music.
Now I'm really starting to think that my dvd players are the wrongs; I tell you this because when I play the dvd on my pc, it works great on Winamp/Windows Media Player.
Are image files playable on standar dvd players? Or maybe I made a bad configuration on the making/burning of the image file.
[BTW you we're right about ImgBurn, it is so easy to use :D]
Sorry for so much questions; think I got lost, but I'm just a begginer ;)
Thanks.
If your DVD player works with DVD-Video only, it means that you have to author the DVD-Video with 16/44.1 or 24/96 range PCM stereo tracks, or - which is MUCH better - you have to upgrade your equipments ;-))) You should look for universal device capable for all disc formats. Maybe OPPO could be the one ?-)
I know, even my pc dvd is miles better XD
I was thinking about the play station 3 who plays almost every format [not dvd-audio only :S ] but until I get the those green $$ I must still try ripping those dvds.
So, if it's another way to burn 24/96 on PCM format, any idea will be welcome.
Well, thank you for answering my questions moulder ;) , didn't got the rips, but belive me I'm learning so much about the ancient art of audiophile :D
PD: Redbook wil be fine for now
For the first time I could rip a 24/96 audio dvd.
The problem was that I used to make the iso without converting the wav files into pcm dvd video capable format.
For the people who has problems with audio dvd creator/apollo or another 24/96 burning software use "Lplex" I found it on sourceforge.
Just convert your files to wav and put them on a folder, then slide the folder into the exe. file [Lplex.exe] and It automatically will convert them into the correct format to burn it on a ordinary dvd video disc. Finally the same program "pack" the files on a single iso. Then you can burn the iso with nero burning rom and there you got the 24/96 vinyl rip ready to play it on a dvd video only :)
The first vinyl rip I burned was moulder's DSOTM, and if it sounds great on my pc, it is a real blown out on my a/v reciver!!
Amazing job!!!!!!!!!!!! On my set it sounds somehow turbocharged on the bass side, but since I have no idea of how the original record sounds it makes almost no sense for me to comment. It's so crisp!!!, this thing deserves a pair of Avant Garde Trio... Not my cheap Charios... ;-)
it's playing on my DVD-A player right now, and I must say it deserves a special place in my collection, near my all time favorite: "Art Pepper - Meet's The Rhythm Section" (DVD-A 24/192), which I feel is the best analog to digital conversion ever made.

Ciao.
Andrea.
thanks for posting that video man, I never laughed so hard in my entire life... and the looks on the wife face when they tell the real price of their system is priceless... It's the fine line between passion and craziness that makes life interesting.
Let me tell you, I ain't no audiophile, my system is a 1000 Euro system made as follows:
Onkyo dvsp 503 dvd player
Onkyo tx sr 503e receiver
Chario Syntar 200 Speakers
I have chosen the components using only the following simple rules:
- Set the full budget
- Decided to allocate 30% 30% 40% on dvd, receiver, and speakers
- Blind tested a series of combinations meeting the price range based on a source I knew very well (being a drummer myself the choice was cd: Andre Ceccarelli - From The Heart, http://www.andrececcarelli.com/discographie.htm ), blind testing is very important, I didn't wanna know any brands or look at any components before deciding...
When I listened to the first dvd-a (months later) I couldn't believe my ears...properly recorded or (remastered) sessions on dvd-a at 24/192 are on another planet even on my cheap stuff, no comparison with even the best SACDs...
As I said I have no experience listening to many different components but I have 1000s of hours spent playing with many different people on many different stages, so I think I have a clear idea of what instruments (should) sound like.
