The Shadows - Compact Shadows (1984)
instrumental | EAC Lame CBR 320 kbps | mp3 | 157 mb

A later Shadow compilation, 18 songs including familiars such as If You Leave Me Now, Chariots of Fire, and Sailing

I don't have reviews for this album but here is snip of Eric Clapton's testimonial on Hank Marvin and The Shadows:

My original interests and intentions in guitar playing were primarily centred on quality of tone, for instance: the way the instrument could be made to echo or simulate the human voice. At the time when I was still thrashing around on the acoustic guitar trying to sound like Leadbelly or Jesse Fuller, there was someone who had already achieved this particular goal. That was Hank B. Marvin of the Shadows. He had found, and settled on, a clean, pure sound, which disallowed any kind of hand-fisted playing. Only the lightest touch was permitted. The result was a marvelous mixture of clear, sweet melody over a strong rock beat (and what a great drum sound). On top of all this, he looked like Buddy Holly and played a real Stratocaster! Unbeatable…

My own playing has gone through many changes and a great deal of ups and downs over the years, and therefore it never ceased to amaze me that Hank managed to arrive exactly where he wanted, and then stayed there.

As for the Shadows, all in all they always seemed to me to be the ideal rock band…They have lasted for more than four decades, their music lasts forever. Hats off to Hank and the boys…. -Eric Clapton

Don't know this one. My vinyls of the Shadows (with and without Cliff Richard) are from the 60s. But for sure I will give this a listen!

TNX Mojabe!!

Thanks again mojabe for being so enthusiastic and working "overtime" to share your treasures with us!

This morning I listened to your previous post from this group and they have lots of songs that are new to me and they are awesome!

It seems like we come from "the same batch" in regards to music evolution and taste, which is great!

Check my first post

http://www.avaxhome.ws/music/2005/12/31/miguel/#full

and I'm sure that you'll find the sound of this musician very interesting

My next post will be another flash from the past. kind of "tribal" salsa, very rich and different, I got kind of excited with the idea when rocktheboss Posted his series of latin music.

It's, in my concept, the best salsa that I have ever heard...I could say: "we shall see" but no; We shall hear is more adequate.

Let's keep the spirit high and encourage everyone to post at least something in return for all the stuff that we get here at Avax

Good vibs and the force be with you all the time!!!

@bully

"Hey, I found a bananahead-free-publication :-))"

Environmentally friendly too... In Serial's word, it is not polluted:-))

I was lucky to be able to sample the vinyls of Cliff Richard's EPs and LPs back then 'cos my elder brother had them. For this one I bought it mid '80s as I was curios to hear how they sound after not listening to them for a long time. No panic.. Hank's Strats still sounds the same....

@gandallon

Glad to hear you like the new songs:-) As long as Hank's signature strats sound doesn't change it is still The Shadows to me, no matter the songs:-))

Yes, we probably are about "the same batch":-)) I checked your post. Sorry to say that I skipped it last time because of the mp3pro thingy:-) No need to further that discussion, we all got to start somewhere:-) The excellent Ventures post reflects you are already well in the game, congratulations!!

I look forward to your 'salsa' post. I love latin music. I can't thank rocktheboss enough for his posts. He sure rocks when he shared those wonderul merengues, salsas....:-)

In kind return, may the force be with you too!!

@StarChief

I had a similar reaction when I read it the first time:-)
