| “ | This is a good album. It is not what you think it's going to be. It is not something you'd expect mixing Bad Company and Led Zeppelin. In fact, it's not really Led Zeppelin at all. And this isn't a bad thing, because folks, you cannot recreate Led Zeppelin, not even Jimmy can, and in my opinion, the latter Plant/Page stuff didn't come close either. This album has a great (bald) drummer and a bassist with a strange yet somewhat interesting sound. And of course a very soulful lead singer (who plays acoustic guitar on a few tracks) and a rock god after his prime. The tone, the texture, the aura of this album is to me, somehow, reminiscent of the Orient. I don't know why, but it reminds me of those really cool Japanese paintings with dragons and yellowing skies, sampan boats and lonely bridges, cranes and rice paddies, and so on. The weak point is the cover of YOU'VE LOST THAT LOVIN' FEELING, but, the guitar solo on this song is very nice, reminding me of the awesome guitar solo on the HONEYDRIPPER's SEA OF LOVE (cover), as in, it's a great solo put in a mediocre redo of an oldie. My favorite tracks are CLOSER, even though it sounds like something that'd be played in a Vegas show, and MAKE OR BREAK (I like the monotonous riff here that, by the way, sounds very Pagey as it is played by Page but was written by Rodgers), MONEY CANT BUY is my true favorite, and RADIOACTIVE, although somewhat overplayed on classic rock stations happy to have Jimmy and Paul back, is cool too. Page's solos are very slow and bluesy here, sloppy, soulful, strange, eerie, reminding me of silver flowers in a lonesome wasteland. That's a compliment by the way. This album isn't for Zeppelin fans, or Bad Company fans... it's for FIRM fans, because it is entirely something else, something different... something brand new even though it's twenty years old. | ” |
