I'm just curious - why would one prefer the Mono releases to the Stereo ?
Posted By: LezDawson Date: 15 Sep 2009 09:58:53
@ daveza: You really are not all that curious are you, because it is so well known you would have easily researched it by now if you were.
But for you, and other lazy people: many of the stereo mixes have all vocals in one side, and all instruments in the other, so doesn't always sound that great (especially on headphones). Also, many of the mono versions contain alternative takes, so are interesting to fans.
Posted By: daveza Date: 15 Sep 2009 10:17:46
Yep - I should have done some research...

Will try a comparison between the two - just presumed the stereo would be better.

@daveza: There is a nice article that answers your question here:
http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/13425-stereo-box-in-mono/

It says what Lez said but gives some more detail and visuals.

Thanks again Lez. Only one more to go. I bet you look good during the week too, without all that makeup. And just for the record, I only believe about half of what wall says about you. Eet good cassette rip. :)

Hey, nothing but the best TDK C90 tapes, with dolby NR.
Posted By: unidyn Date: 15 Sep 2009 18:16:51
Oh yes, then play them back w/out Dolby for that really nice brighter, hissier top end. That's what I'd like all my remssters to be sourced from! Of course I like the Certron cassette tapes from the 70's, 3 in a pack for $1.00. That's fidelity :-)
Posted By: LezDawson Date: 15 Sep 2009 21:51:52
Oh yes, unidyn, sheer lo-fi quality. We don't want any of that pretentious 'chrome' or 'zinc alloy' tape here. Give me the bargain bin any day for that special hissy, fluttery sound. Then dump it to 128 kbps MP3 and play it till my ears bleed.
Posted By: 4-F Date: 15 Sep 2009 23:20:05
My ears are bleeding just thinking about it. lol I am glad you didn't use 8 track tapes. I wish I had my money back on all of those I bought back in the early 70s. I'd be about $10 richer today. :)

I remember those wonderful Certron cassettes! The 60 minute ones had orange stripes and the 90 minute ones had blue strips. LOL! Don't forget that you'll need to tape them (on a beat up proto-ghetto blaster, of course) from an AM radio broadcast from a town 75 miles away.

Certron...aw hell.

Ah, Certon tapes, that brings brings back fond memories circa 1970. I taped my first Beatles rips downstairs in the basement using a hand held Radio Shack mic and a Craig mono portable cassette recorder. A year later I upgraded to something with a line-in jack. Now that was true hi-fi.
Posted By: 4-F Date: 16 Sep 2009 20:25:33
You people need help! I saw those tapes but I never bought one. I bought the expensive tapes. They were probably all made on the same machine but I paid out the butt!! I used to record from fm radio onto a 7 inch reel to reel. Then I would copy what I wanted to keep onto another 7 inch reel to reel. I had it all indexed and everything. Damn!! Those were the days!! It sure is easier and better quality now. :)

Lez, I didn't see Please Please Me posted but I read a comment somewhere that you had posted them all. Did it get put and taken down?
Posted By: 4-F Date: 16 Sep 2009 21:46:50
wtf??? I hadn't even noticed the log file isn't in the posts. It is in the downloads. WOW! This site is by far the best site I have ever seen. The reason is because they keep it organized and policed and they have attracted a good number of people that share really high quality albums. But then they sometimes get too militant. I thought your posts were FIRST CLASS. I agree with unidyn that a simple PM should have taken care of the minor issue. I almost never look at the log files in the posts anyway.

Let me know how this turns out. Good Luck!

and THANKS for the first class Certron taped, cassette rip, mp3 converted to flac, torrent download.

Don't worry...you'll always be LezDawson to me. That's a real nice way to treat someone that's made some of the most significant posts here (with ikvor being your partner in...ahem...well, y'know). Probably some douche like "wall" cried and bitched to the mods until they got tired of hearing him. It's a shame. Anyway...

I have a question for the masses. Am I the only one here that's having trouble getting rid of the Dr. Ebbetts versions of these original LP's? On one hand, I'd hate to hit the delete key on someone's hard work even if they did put out a message that these new remasters blow away their versions of the same not to mention the time it took for me to locate all of his stuff. On the other hand, God knows I could use the space on my external HD. I haven't shitcanned any of them yet because whether The Beatles, EMI or anyone else likes it or not Dr. Ebbetts' discs are now a part of The Beatles' history and provide an important lesson on how pieces of cultural history should be handled.

Thanks for all of your work and thanks also for kicking down the PPM link.

All the best "from me to you" (sorry...I know that was kinda fruit but I couldn't resist)...

Lez, I found this set of rules for lossless posts.

http://avaxhome.ws/avaxhome_news/new_lossless_rules_moved.html

It says you have to put log file in with "hide" tags or whatever.
