AIO 6 Ebooks makers

writers dream 32 bit 6.02
Writer's Dream presents text you have created with your favorite word processing program as a super-easy-to-use electronic book. You can display images and play sounds along with your chapters.

To use Writer's Dream, first write your chapters as standard ASCII text ("DOS Text") files. Check the instructions with your word processing program to make sure you are creating the standard ASCII ("DOS Text") or RTF (Rich Text Format) files. If you do not have a word processing program, Windows Notepad (or Wordpad) works fine. For best results, turn hard carriage returns or wordwrap off.

Once your files are written, start Writer's Dream (BUILD.EXE). Click on NEW to start a new book. Then click on ADD CHAPTER to add each of your text files as a chapter to your book.

Create a title for your book by entering a line in the MAIN TITLE window in the upper left corner.

You can control options such as background color, subtitle, and start up sound effect by clicking on OPTIONS.

Click on MAKE BOOK to compile your book. Two files will be created on your hard disk. One will end with .EXE, and that will be your actual book program. The other will end with .CFG, and that stores information about your book, so you can come back to it to make changes at any time. All you need to give to end users is the single .EXE file.

Click on TEST BOOK to run your book and see how it looks. You can make changes, recompile and test your book as often as you like. Remember that changes will not take effect until you click on MAKE BOOK, because TEST BOOK simply runs the latest version of the book you have created.

To change a the text, picture, sound, or title of a chapter, double-click on it.

To delete a chapter, single-click on it to highlight it, then click on DELETE. To Insert a chapter, click on the chapter above which you want it to appear, then click on INSERT.

Pictures used with chapters are standard Windows .BMP or .WMF files. They can contain from 2 to 16.7 million colors. They can be any original size, but will be shown in a box that is 150 pixels high. The width of pictures will be proportional to their original width.

If you are interested in the smallest possible file size for your finished book, using .BMP files which are originally very large will make your book large. You might prefer to zoom your images down and resave them at 150 pixels high with your favorite paint program before using them with Writer's Dream. If creating from scratch, 200 x 150 pixels is a good size.

You can also select a .BMP or .WMF file for use as a main background. This will be shown behind the main menu, and any chapters which do not have a picture of their own. Background color has no effect when used with a background picture, unless you have chapters without their own pictures.

If you have pictures which are not in .BMP format, use your favorite graphics program to convert .PCX, .GIF, .JPG, .PNG, .TIF or others to the .BMP format. BMP is very good because no loss of color or resolution occurs, it displays on screen very fast, and although a large format, it compresses into very small file size.

Although Writer's Dream can display pictures up to 16.7 million colors (24-bit) just fine, you might want to consider that many end users have their computers set to a 256-color (8-bit) video mode. Writer's Dream automatically converts pictures of more colors to the resolution the end user has, but you can be sure of better colors for all end users if you use 256-color images in the first place. 256-color pictures also take up only one-third as much file size.

Writer's Dream can play standard .WAV or .MID sound files. They can run as long as you wish, but if the user selects another chapter with a different sound file, the original sound will quit, and the new one will start.

You can have an almost unlimited number of chapters. There is a limit, but it is huge. It is 30,000 characters of total chapter text. So, if you have an average chapter name length of 30 characters, that would allow you 1000 chapters.

There are two versions of Writer's Dream for Windows. This one is a 32-bit application for Windows 95 and Windows NT. Books made with this version will not run under Windows 3.1.

This version has an unlimited text file size. A chapter can be as large as your whole hard drive. It will also support .RTF files, which can contain font attributes (text in different sizes, colors and typefaces), centering and justification.

The other version of Writer's Dream is a 16-bit application which will make books that do run under Windows 3.1, as well as Windows 95 and Windows NT. The 16-bit version does not display .RTF files, and has a text file size limit of 30,000 characters (bytes) per chapter.

Packaging your electronic book is easy. Simply distribute your finished .EXE file to end users. Instruct them to double-click on the book file from within Windows, and it will run automatically.

For modem-based distribution, you can compress your book with PKZIP, LHARC or any file compression system. You can also package it with setup builders, such as UNIBUILD.

Your finished book is a professional-quality product which can be sold via ******, mail order, or shareware, and distributed by modem, disk or CD-ROM

eBook Workshop 1.5

web exe 1.55
Welcome to WebExe, the ideal tool to distribute web sites in a compact form as a single file.
What does WebExe do?
WebExe lets you convert your HTML pages into a stand alone, self-running EXE file.
This file contains a built-in browser, so that no additional software for starting and viewing the file is required.
How does WebExe work?
First you give WebExe the start file of your home page (for example "index.htm"). From this file, all embedded graphics, sounds and linked pages, are collected and compiled into a single output file.
So, the complete home page and associated pages are worked through, all files are collected and additionally compressed using the ZIP algorithm.

What can I use WebExe for?
There is a multiplicity of possible uses for WebExe.
As an example, you can offer your web site as an executable file, so that all information can be read through at leisure, offline.
More possible uses are price lists, tips and tricks collections, lexicons, company presentations or electronic books. All, or any of these, may be protected against copying or one of several other restrictions supported by WebExe.
WebExe files can also be used as start-menus for self-created CD-ROMs, as you can start external programs using hypertext-links.
This Help file is yet another demonstration of a WebExe function. You simply produce your help-texts in the HTML-format and use WebExe to convert them into executable files
