virustotal detects a few backdoors in the patch but I think these are false positives?

I ran patcher inside sandboxie and only change was to generate readiris.exe and readiris.exe.BAK

If this is the same patcher that I've seen elsewhere it contains a polymorphic virus that is a variant of Win32.Virut.56. The cleanup tool such as the one AVG puts out will not clean it. Stay away from this one!

I just diffed the original and patched .exe. There are only 9 single byte differences. That hardly seems enough for a virus :P

And since I ran the patcher inside sandboxie, that was the ONLY change in the filesystem that occurred.

Also looking at the actual changes, most of them are 75h -> EBh. Which is probably just changing a conditional jump to a jump (assuming that we're at the opcode and not the operand). Other changes are to 00h (probably changing the operand?).

If there's this much question, maybe better to just remove this download entirely from AvaxHome until it's 100% proof that it is OK ?

I thought my last comment was proof that it was okay. Although with any download one can never be 100% sure. I've run app in question and had no issues.

@pjadgu was just guessing anyway. There is no evidence of any virus in the patcher, let alone Win32.Virut.56.

i agree with tired,
nothing wrong so far,NOD32 didn't see anything.
i'm still running this in deepfreeze protected mode as usual for all d/l involving pathing.

See earlier comments. There is NO virus.
This is just FALSE positive from virus checkers.
