OK Jaystuff, agreed. But this is an excellent series that does give one insight as to what's going on in Afghanistan, right now. Like yourself, (when watching stuff like this) one has to remember to adjust one's "BullSh*t-filter" accordingly. I've seen this six-part series in it's entirety and I've also done two tours of Op's in the 'stan. The entire series does give a pretty good over-view as to what the country looks like, what KAF(Kandahar Air Field) and the Boardwalk, actually looks like and does convey an overall sense of what the country feels like. Although I wouldn't recommend it as a substitute for going there, I can say it did bring back some memories... However Sir, do not delude yourself for one moment, the folks your describing as 'goat herders with an old pick-up truck and a rusty Kalashnikov' are far and few between. By and large, the 'goat herders with a passion for Old Testament living' that you are describing are in actuality, highly motivated, well equipped and well trained Taliban soldiers. The Taliban that are fighting in Swat valley right now are not 'goat herders with an old pick-up trucks, a rusty kalashnikov and a passion for old testament living', the Pakistani Army will certainly attest to that(accurate body-counts don't lie). Now, if we can just get the Yanks to quit 'Remotely' bombing people... Don't get me wrong; RPV's work and they work well - when used properly. The Canadian Forces will certainly attest to that. However, having an RPV 'pilot' sitting or 'remotely flying' these things, several thousand kilometers away doesn't help RPV's to work effectively(strategically and tactically). Both Adjunct Pilot(takes off and lands the RPV) and the Primary Pilot(only flies the RPV through the airborne aspect of the RPV's mission package) need to be on the same base or at least, the same country. The Adjunct Pilot in episode five eludes to it. Clearly however, SOCOM disagrees and blithely continues to 'remotely' kill innocent people. The apology of the Vietnam-era applies: "Oops! Sorry 'bout that!!". But hey! Obama sez "we don't do that" so I must be tired and no longer able to see through the ever thickening(sickening?)"fog of war"... Thank you langtuchungtinh. Excellent post! And Jaystuff, I'm also white and non-muslim and have no ax to grind with you. Just thought you'd appreciate a different point of view, z'all.
