The Three Colours Trilogy (Polish: Trzy kolory) is the collective title of three films – a trilogy – directed by Krzysztof Kieślowski, two made in French and one primarily in Polish: Trois couleurs: Bleu (Three Colours: Blue) (1993), Trzy kolory: Biały (Three Colours: White) (in French: Blanc) (1994), and Trois couleurs: Rouge (Three Colors: Red) (1994). All three were co-written by Kieślowski and Krzysztof Piesiewicz (with story consultants Agnieszka Holland and Sławomir Idziak) and have musical scores by Zbigniew Preisner. The films were Kieślowski's first major successes in the West, and are his most acclaimed works after The Decalogue.

"Nun's Chorus," Mozart's "Adagio from Violin Concerto #3," "Air on a G String," and "Torselli Serenade" are simply exquisite. On the other hand "You Are My Heart's Delight," "Vienna, the City of My Dreams," and "O Fortuna" showcase Rieu and his orchestra doing their work with the grandeur of the concert halls in which they play. "The Gadfly" (from 'Romantic Moments') goes to show how much we can take those details (like Rieu's 1667 Stradivarius violin) for granted.

Turandot is an opera in three acts by Giacomo Puccini, set to a libretto in Italian by Giuseppe Adami and Renato Simoni. Though Puccini's first interest in the subject was based on his reading of Friedrich Schiller's adaptation of the play, his work is most nearly based on the earlier text Turandot by Carlo Gozzi. The story, set in China, involves prince Calàf who falls in love with the cold princess Turandot. To obtain permission to marry her, a suitor has to solve three riddles; any false answer results in death. Calàf passes the test, but Turandot still hesitates to marry him. He offers her a way out : he agrees to die should she be able guess his real name...

Enregistré à la Salle Pleyel, à Paris, en 2007, par l'Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France, placé sous la direction de Myung-Wung Chung. Jean-François Zygel installe sa leçon de musique et son grand piano noir sur la scène de la Salle Pleyel. Le pianiste improvisateur y dévoile les grands principes et les petits secrets de «La Symphonie du Nouveau Monde», d'Antonín Dvorák. Le compositeur tchèque l'écrivit en 1894, lors de son séjour aux États-Unis où il resta pendant quelques années comme directeur du Conservatoire de New York. Elle se veut l'expression de sensations et de souvenirs que Dvorák a envoyés à ses proches au loin.

Cesaria Evora, disparue en décembre 2011, a popularisé, dans le monde entier, la «morna», poésie chantée qui traduit la «saudade» capverdienne : une variation mélancolique sur la dureté de l'existence sur une terre ingrate, la nécessité de l'exil, l'espoir d'une vie meilleure, la mer incertaine, la nostalgie du pays natal, la souffrance des amours perdues, la solitude, etc. Elle a également fait connaître la «colareda», au rythme plus rapide, musique de fêtes, de retrouvailles, pour faire danser les amoureux. Chez elle, à Mindelo, ville portuaire sinistrée mais toujours animée, Cesaria Evora, entourée de sa famille et de ses amis, parle de sa jeunesse, du temps de la «dèche», de sa musique. Los Angeles Philharmonic Music Director Gustavo Dudamel and Creative Chair for Jazz Herbie Hancock launched the LA Phil’s 2011/12 season with a sparkling George Gershwin gala at Walt Disney Concert Hall in September. “This is the first time as a professional musician that I’ll be playing a piece that’s essentially classical music with jazz overtones with a symphony orchestra, and what a symphony orchestra it is!” marvels Hancock just before the concert, referring to his keyboard work in Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.”

This concert was filmed at London's Brixton Academy in September 2010 to culminate the world tour in support of their Battle For The Sun album released the previous year. The tour had been an unqualified success with the band playing to over 2.5 million fans in all parts of the world. Director David Byrne (of Talking Heads) takes an outside-looking-in glance at Texas and Texans in True Stories. Casting himself as the protagonist/narrator, Byrne adopts what he thinks is "standard" western garb and drives his red convertible into the small town of Virgil. Here he observes the town's preparations for celebrating Texas' sesquicentennial, taking time out to introduce us to several of the local oddballs. Swoosie Kurtz plays Miss Rollings, the Laziest Woman in the World; Alix Elias is The Cute Woman, who decorates her home in the most hideously "sweet" manner imaginable; John Goodman is talent-contest entrant Louis Fyne, who harbors dreams of being a C&W star; Spalding Gray is Earl Culver, a vegetable-obsessed civic leader; Jo Harvey Allen is The Lying Woman; and so it goes. The script by Southerners Byrne, Beth Henley and Steven Tobolowksy strives to avoid subtlety.
