With sixteen women to each man, the odds are against Andula in her desperate search for love-that is, until a rakish piano player visits her small factory town and temporarily eases her longings. A tender and humorous look at Andula's journey, from the first pangs of romance to its inevitable disappointments, Loves of a Blonde (Lásky jedné plavovlásky) immediately became a classic of the Czech New Wave and earned Milos Forman the first of his Academy Award nominations. (-DVD cover)

A working-class young woman (Andula) in a hick Czech town sleeps with one of the band members of a group from Prague. "You are a Mondrian, not a Picasso," he tells her. When she doesn't hear from him again, she packs up and arrives on his doorstep in the big city, throwing his household (he lives with his parents) into chaos. LOVES OF A BLONDE is a bittersweet comedy, in fact less sweet than bitter, relating the anxieties of the young women of an industrial small town. These girls are desperately looking for the man of their dreams while the male population of the town doesn't exceed the tenth of the female number. (amazon.com)

So when Andula is seduced by the pianist of a Praguan band and is invited to come to his place if she ever comes to the Czechoslovakian capital, she doesn't hesitate. Needless to say that the pianist will be a little annoyed when Andula knocks at his parents's door in the middle of the night. (amazon.com)

French New Wave in technique but the humor is charmingly Czech in tone. Very touching, wise, and satisfying film from a filmmaker who exhibits a fondness for all his characters. No one escapes Formans lighthearted satire nor his empathy which embraces all forms of life, young and old. Remarkably light and poignant at the same time. Czech and Polish films of this period strike an irresistable chord and are some of the most irresistable films ever made. (amazon.com)

Thanks for posting 'Loves of a Blonde', I love this film (I saw it twice in the 80-ies) and it's the only one I know of that I was missing from Forman's early years ( I've got Audition, Black Peter and Fireman's Ball ). I'm missing his rare film "Taking off", in fact I've got it but in Checz language...

kharmok, I dont have (and never seen) "Audition" and "Black Peter". It would be great if you upload them in the future... (no hurry at all really :))

Dear FNB.47,

I'll be honoured to upload films you don't have, or haven't seen. I'll start with "Black Peter" which is a TV-rip with embedded Serbian subs, but I found english subs for it. The only problem will be to make a black stripe behind english subs, so they don't mix with Serbian. Do you know how to do that?

Dear FNB.47,

I'll be honoured to upload films you don't have, or haven't seen. I'll start with "Black Peter" which is a TV-rip with embedded Serbian subs, but I found separate english subs for it. The only problem will be to make a black stripe behind english subs, so they can be easily read and don't mix with Serbian. Do you know how to do that?

kharmok, I dont know how to do that, but I think in some players (ie. BS_Player) there are options to display subtiles anywhere on the screen... (anyway you know I (personally) dont mind subtitles much :))

Hello FNB47! Just wanted to say big thank You for the movies You have uploaded, many of which (Tarkovsky for example) I can't buy in Poland. Unfortunately I have the problem with the subtitles for "Loves of a Blonde". I downloaded the movie but after unpacking I have found only portuguese one. Is there chance to download synchronized english subtitles. Thank You once again for the great job! Greetings from Poland!
