Escrima, the Spanish word for "fencing," is the name given to both armed and unarmed applications of the Filipino martial arts. In learning a battlefield art which only recently developed into a sport, the Escrima student begins with single or double weapons and gradually learns to apply the same techniques empty-handed.

A deadly serious approach to fighting, Escrima is known for lighting fast self-defense and simultaneous counter-attacks and blocks. Each of these tapes teach different aspects of the Latosa Escrima System as taught in his schools. The videos complement each other but also stand on their own as complete training aids.

DVD 1 - FIGURE EIGHT THEORY

Weapons to Empty Hands concentrates on the familiar figure-eight pattern. Mr. Latosa explains that while some interpret this movement as defensive, the techniques can be better used to press an attack. The three ranges are explained, as well as how to use the figure-8 as a footwork pattern. Includes: the crossover to empty hand fighting, the concept of "zoning," entering and using the figure-eight to intercept kicks and knee strikes. Explained is the "So What?" theory of counter-strikes: the attacker intercepts your move, you say "so what?" as your follow-up goes right around it!.

DVD 2 - CADENA DE MANO (CHAIN OF HANDS)

The Filipino system of empty hand fighting. The training starts with the stick and progresses to unarmed combat. Plus self-defense techniques.

DVD 3 - THE LATOSA BOX SYSTEM

Latosa's approach to footwork, body positioning, defensive counters and offensive attacks. Learn how to zone yourself in relation to your opponent.

DVD 4 - POWER, SPEED, TIMING & MOTION

How to effectively use the power you have. How to coordinate speed and timing by utilizing sticks, empty hands and other training methods.

DVD 5 - DOS MANOS

The next step after perfecting your single stick practice is the use of the double sticks or "Dos Manos" (two hands). Mr. Latosa covers the theory and coordination behind the practice of two sticks. Includes workouts, fighting & self-defense

DVD 6 - BLADED WEAPONS: THE MACHETE

Knife and blade fighting is integral to learning the Filipino fighting arts. Understanding how an opponent might use a machete will improve your chances in the case of confrontation against a blade wielding attacker.

DVD 7 - LONG STICKS

Long range stick techniques using staves or a short stick against a staff. Mr. Latosa shows how to disarm a long staff equipped attacker. Plus how to manipulate the long stick.

DVD 8 - FULL CONTACT STICK FIGHTING

With the rise in popularity of the Filipino martial arts, full contact stick fighting is now a common tournament event.
