In trying to meet the woman who wrote the letter, he comes to realize she lives about a year or two ahead of him in the timeline, and lived in the house after he vacated it. They begin a correspondence through the mysterious mailbox. He asks her to find him in the future, but she can't...
The film was remade by Warner Brothers in 2006 as The Lake House starring Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves.
