Set during the Edo period under the Tokugawa shogunate, Nemuri Kyôshirô is a mysterious samurai with sleepy eyes whose mother is a noble’s daughter and whose father is a fallen Western priest. His trademark fighting technique is the Engetsu-Sappo, literally meaning "The Full Moon Cut." It is a technique in which he draws a circle with his sword -- his opponent is always slain by the time the circle is completed. In the third installment of this samurai series, Kyoshiro demonstrates his skill by slicing the clothes from the body of a female opponent, and gets involved in a plot that could spell his doom!

Cruel young Lord Takayuki beheads a riverside refugee fisherman merely to test the quality of his sword. Such was once the prerogative of any samurai, but at this time of history, at the end of the Tokugawa era, it is illegal, not that there's anyone apt to do anything about it. The young lord is the bastard of the Shogun, bitter to be shunted aside as an unofficial son, but full of himself due to his lineage, & does pretty much any vicious thing he wants……..This the best Sleepy Eyes movie yet! Great action and a wonderful thoughtful story, with some great philosophical questions. We also learn a little bit more about Nemuri. Well, about his sword at least… It turns out to be a Masamune sword, called Muso Masamune. Muso means something like ‘without a heart’. Masamune was one of the thirteen legendary 13th century swordmakers who commissioned swords for the Shogun.- - ~ meishi + weirdwildrealm
