Roy Andersson's WORLD OF GLORY is a classic, recognised by the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival to be one of history's most important short films, and included in a top-ten list together with such films as the Lumiere Brothers' LA BATAILLE DE BOULES DE NEIGE and Luis Bunuel's UN CHIEN ANDALOU. The film is unique and shows, in a series of tableaus, a man in various frozen situations. He's the product of a stiff and reserved Sweden, living politely while feeling very miserable somewhere behind the painfully correct facade. The film's Swedish title, Härlig är Jorden (literally, 'Lovely is the earth'), which comes from a Swedish hymn of the same name, stands in sharp contrast to the cold and lifeless mood of the scenes. Cinema16

Roy Andersson is famous for the individuality of his films and the singular style of his work. After a 30 year break he completed his third feature, SONGS FROM THE SECOND FLOOR, which won the Jury prize at Cannes in 2000 and had considerable international success. Andersson's latest feature, DU LEVANDE (We The Living), was completed in 2007. Cinema16

"The opening scene of World of Glory is a reconstruction of events during the Second World War. The term 'ethnic cleansings' did not exist then, it was called the 'final solution'. Human beings were put to death by, among other methods, gassing in diesel-driven, closed vans. The gas from the motor was piped into the storage compartment. These vans were the forerunners of the gas chamber." -Roy Andersson on World of Glory Cinema16

"These events, this conduct, these rationally worked out extermination methods, this coldness and insensitivity towards other people's suffering are for me the total embodiment of evil. How shall we handle this knowledge of what humanity is capable of?" -Roy Andersson on World of Glory Cinema16

FredCouples
Hello

(dont feel sorry for double posts... it is not your fault. I think Avax-software stumbles some/many times under heavy user traffic:)) nobody can guess how many times "the comment" will appear on a page... :))

Thank you very much for your kind and encouraging words. It is a great feeling that there are so many real-cinema-lovers all around the world... just great... I feel sooo happy :)

When I had started posting movies last year... I've never ripped a single movie in my life... (this is why some(many?) of my early rips arent as good as later ones :)) If you have time, read guides of http://www.doom9.org/ If you have time and patience you can do it.

Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet
Yes they are so authentic and creative.
I remember in those 68-days I had watched "Chronik der Anna Magdalena Bach" first time at a cinematheque screening.
And in mid-80s I saw "Klassenverhältnisse" at the Film Festival in our city.
I cant say that I adore their work but I really do feel deep respect for them and I try hard to get into their work... which isnt easy at all you know...
I have "Chronik der Anna Magdalena Bach" as DVD and will post it in near future.
Pedro Costa is a well-known Portuguese filmmaker. I love his films but unfortunately I have none... you are lucky that you've seen those documentary once. I think it is impossible to find it released as DVD or something...

Thanks for your support

Hello FC,

I hope you'll receive pCosta's Straub/Huillet documentary from that Portugese website. If you have a broad-internet-connection maybe you can upload (some of) your Straub/Huillet collection to RS as DVDs :)

>...ever heard of Peter Nestler?...
>
Frankly no. There happened some German-Film-Weeks at cinema clubs in old days (Alexander Kluge et al.) but I dont remember pNestler's name. Now I searched IMDb and found 2 DVDs of him (not as a director but as an actor) sold by Amazon. One is "Schinderhannes", in German without subtitles. Curd Jürgens and Maria Schell on the cover, seems like a mainstream one... and the other "The Strangler of Blackmoor Castle" doesnt look like so promising either... According to IMDb he had made 5 short movies during 1962-65 and later on all of his work is for TV-documentary-movies. So it seems quite hard to find his movies (with Eng. s/t)... We would be grateful to you if you could introduce us his-movies.

All the best.
