Il reduce di guerra Nick, torna a casa e trova che suo padre non è più in grado di guidare il camion in seguito ad un incidente stradale che lo ha reso invalido. Responsabile dell'incidente è Mike, commerciante di frutta all'ingrosso. Così per risollevare le sorti della famiglia, Nick investe il suo premio di mobilitazione in una partita di mele che intende vendere a San Francisco. Qui riesce a vendere il carico a Mike, che non si fa scrupoli ad imbrogliarlo, anche grazie all'aiuto di una compiacente ragazza.
