Nikita Mikhalkov - A Few Days in the Life of I.I. Oblomov (1979) Re-post

Russian director Nikita Mikhalkov takes a break from emulating his beloved Chekhov to film the classic Ivan Goncharov novel Oblomov. The title character (played by Oleg Tabakov) is a 19th century Russian civil servant and landlord who chooses to go to bed one day--and never get up. Preferring to sleep his way through life rather than confront it, Oblomov is shaken from his slumbers by the arrival of a childhood friend Shtoltz. A series of flashbacks show why it is that this friend's presence gets Oblomov out of his 'jammies and back on his feet.





This story of a 19th-century Russian land owner (Oblomov) begins slowly, with scenes that puzzle and seem almost contradictory. The beginning denies you any emotional involvement, but as the film progresses you're dragged into Oblomov's psyche. There's a scene where two young boys are spinning themselves around in the seat of a swing to get dizzy. That's almost the sensation you get as you find yourself completely immersed in Oblomov's world. Not that you're reeling or disoriented, but that everything else becomes shut out. The film moves along at a genteel pace, and, in that unique Russian way, when emotions burst through the societal veneer, you're completely clobbered. It's like someone sneaking up from behind and conking you on the head. The human condition being what it is, it's impossible not to identify with Oblomov. For anyone who has ever deliberated, doubted, or procrastinated--in other words, everyone--this film provides layers and layers of meaning, gently filtered through a portrait of Russian gentry. The crafting of the film is absolutely top tier: acting, cinematography, pacing--everything, really. Put that together with the haunting subtext, and you get a film well worth seeing. San Petersburgo, mediados del siglo XIX: Oblómov, un indolente aristócrata de mediana edad, vive en un departamento con su viejo sirviente, Zajar. Heredero terrateniente, eterno ausente de una hacienda fraudulentamente administrada, con una malograda carrera de funcionario y un retraimiento temprano de la vida social, Oblómov conocerá de pronto un extraño renacer, una misteriosa sacudida que por un momento le hará creer en la posibilidad de otra clase de vida, en la que asoman insospechadamente la confianza y el amor.

D’après le grand roman d’Ivan Gontcharov « Oblomov ». Les riches propriétaires terriens russes menaient au XIXe siècle une existence généralement morne et oisive. Leur grand problème était de se trouver une place dans la vie, de se réaliser en tant qu’individus. C’est apparemment le cas d’Ilya Ilitch Oblomov, qui ne conçoit pas de pouvoir travailler dans le seul but de multiplier sa richesse, une finalité à ses yeux vraiment trop médiocre. Se prélassant donc des journées entières sur son canapé tout en se livrant à des méditations « philosophiques » sur le sens de la vie, Oblomov passe à côté de bien des belles choses dans ladite vie, y compris le pur amour que lui offre Olga. Quand la jeune femme comprend que ses efforts pour ébranler ce fruit sec resteront vains, elle prend le parti de se marier avec Schtoltz, l’ami d’Oblomov.



Фильм создан по мотивам романа русского писателя Ивана Гончарова "Обломов". В 19 веке русские помещики жили скучно и праздно. Трудно им было найти свое место в жизни, реализовать себя как личность. Вот и главный герой фильма Илья Ильич Обломов - не хотел трудиться лишь ради приумножения своего богатства, поскольку не видел в этом для себя высокой цели. Лежа на диване и предаваясь "философским" размышлениям о смысле жизни, Обломов многое упустил в этой жизни, в том числе и свою любовь - Ольгу...
