Seventh-grade is no fun. Especially for Dawn Weiner when everyone at school calls you 'Dog-Face' or 'Wiener-Dog.' Not to mention if your older brother is 'King of the Nerds' and your younger sister is a cutesy ballerina who gets you in trouble but is your parents' favorite. And that's just the beginning--her life seems to be falling apart when she faces rejection from the older guy in her brother's band that she has a crush on, her parents want to tear down her 'Special People's Club' clubhouse, and her sister is abducted....




"Welcome to the Dollhouse" is a fresh, creative, no frills pic about a junior high school girl who is the personification of "uncool". This poignant film could be dark comedy, light drama, satire or even farce depending on how its interpreted. However that may be, it shows in painful detail the assassination of the self esteem of a sweet, kind, and thoughtful girl who wants little more than to be liked. Entertaining as it may be, "...Dollhouse" is a movie with a message for everyone who has ever been 12. IMDB comment




Bienvenido a la casa de muñecas
Descarnada mirada sobre el mundo preadolescente de una chica de once años -la "fea" y "rara" del colegio (Heather Matarazzo)-, quien es también la menos favorecida a la hora de los cuidados maternos, volcados mayoritariamente hacia su hermana menor.
La niña solo lo pasa bien cuando piensa en un amigo de su hermano, de quien está enamorada. Pero quien se fija en ella es el chico más "pesado" de la escuela. El cuadro se complica cuando desaparece la pequeña por una distracción -quizás deliberada- de su hermana mayor.

Segundo trabajo de Todd Solondz, quien, pese a filmar poco (su película posterior fue Felicidad y se estrenó en 1998), goza de prestigio en el circuito independiente gracias a un cine extremadamente mordaz e irónico.



Dans une banlieue banale du New Jersey, Dawn Wiener est une adolescente au physique ingrat peu appréciée dans son lycée. Son seul ami est un garçon éfféminé aussi impopulaire qu'elle. Méprisée par sa famille et rabaissée par ses professeurs, Dawn est désormais la cible de Brandon, le dealer de son lycée, qui a projeté de la violer. Mais au lieu de s'exécuter, Brandon commence à s'ouvrir à elle et à lui parler de son frère handicapé...
