In the 18th century, Cornish Squire Ross Poldark returns home from America to find his estate in tatters, putting things to rights he meets the fiery Demelza and crosses swords with George Warleggan. He is shocked to discover his house in disarray and his fiancee Elizabeth engaged to his cousin Francis.

An additional note for anyone still debating about downloading these......

These are the original unedited versions that ran back in the 1970's. The DVD versions released on Region 2 BBC discs have multiple edits - at least 55 minutes edited out from the first series alone - so grab these up while they are available. Thank you melomaniaco!!!!
