Frantisek Vlácil - Stíny horkého léta aka Shadows of a Hot Summer (1978)

The Bandera guerilla is a group composed of Ukrainians and others, who fought under the Germans during World War II. In this story, five men from the gang are attempting to make it to the border of Austria before Czechoslovakia comes under communist rule in the summer of 1947. They wind up hiding out in a remote village near the border, holding a farmer and his family hostage. At first the farmer tries to comply with their wishes, in order to save his wife and children. He goes so far as to kidnap the town's doctor to treat one of the group's wounded. When he fully understands the gang's ruthlessness and deceitfulness, he realizes he must find another way if everyone he cares about is to survive.





Although Vlácil was temperamentally drawn to historical reconstruction, his films were always intended, he said, as a dialogue with his own times. His themes can be summarized as reflecting the human distortions caused by cultural and ideological conflict. The historical themes of East vs West, Christianity vs paganism, and Czechs vs Germans could easily find their parallels in more contemporary ideological conflicts. The invading Ukrainian guerrillas in Stíny horkého léta (Shadows of a Hot Summer, 1977), where a Moravian farmer defends his home against occupation, were even interpreted as standing for the Warsaw Pact armies that invaded Czechoslovakia during the suppression of the Prague Spring of 1968.





Sombras de un verano caliente
La guerrilla Bandera era un grupo compuesto por ucranianos y otros que luchó junto a los alemanes durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. En esta historia, cinco hombres de la pandilla están tratando de llegar a la frontera de Austria antes de que Checoslovaquia quede sometida al régimen comunista, en el verano de 1947. Se esconden a poca distancia de un pueblito cerca de la frontera, con un agricultor y su familia como rehenes. Al principio, el agricultor trata de cumplir con sus deseos, con el fin de salvar a su esposa e hijos. El agricultor llega al extremo de secuestrar al médico de la ciudad para curar a un integrante herido de la banda. Cuando se da cuenta de la crueldad y de la mendacidad de la banda, se convence de que debe encontrar otro camino si quiere salvar a sus seres queridos.





František Vláčil natočil působivou baladu, která se nedlouho po skončení druhé světové války odehrává v beskydských lesích. Se svou rodinou tam hospodaří osamělý rolník, jenž se stane rukojmím blíže neurčených mužů v rozedraných uniformách. Muž se zprvu chová pokorně a vyhýbá se konfliktu, až si vyslouží pohrdání svého dospívajícího syna. Přitom se však vnitřně chystá na rozhodující střetnutí. V tomto případě nejsou důležité vnější "politicky správné" reálie (lze usuzovat, že se jedná o banderovce), ale modelový případ neokázalé statečnosti, hrdina má stále na zřeteli záchranu svých blízkých...

Ондрей Баран живет с семьей в стороне от прочих в моравских горах-лесах. Идет 47-й год, через Чехословакию украинские повстанцы пробираются на Запад. Небольшой отряд захватывает уединенную ферму героя, они обещают уйти, когда получат желаемое, но Баран боится, что так просто все не обойдется...
