“Der Film Die Brücke ist ein deutscher Antikriegsfilm von Bernhard Wicki aus dem Jahre 1959. Er basiert auf dem im Jahr zuvor erschienenen gleichnamigen autobiografischen Roman von Manfred Gregor, in welchem er seine Kriegserlebnisse verarbeitet hat. Bernhard Wicki hat diesen eher patriotischen Roman im Drehbuch zu einem Kriegsdrama umgesetzt.

“Le deuxième film de Bernhard Wicki, au budget visiblement chiche et de prime abord un peu déroutant, a marqué les esprits lors de sa sortie. Die Brücke a remporté plusieurs prix dans son pays (Wicki la premières de ses quatre récompenses du "meilleur réalisateur" allemand). Et il est vraisemblable que le "Golden Globe" (même partagé !) et la nomination aux Academy Awards dans la catégorie "meilleur film étranger" a dû influencer Darryl F. Zanuck de la Fox en sa faveur lors du choix d'un co-réalisateur pour The Longest Day, sorti deux ans plus tard. Le film est une adaptation de l'ouvrage éponyme et autobiographique de Gregor Dorfmeister, alias Manfred Gregor, paru en 1958. (...) Ne regardez pas Die Brücke si vous pensez qu'il pourrait s'agir d'une version allemande (et fauchée) de The Bridge at Remagen ou de A Bridge Too Far. Plus qu'un simple film de guerre, c'est un drame et un plaidoyer pacifiste.
