Yoshishige Yoshida - Kokuhakuteki joyûron aka Confessions among actresses (1971)

Confessions, indiscretions, actresses. A game betwen acting and confessing. But a pretext for another Yoshida's materspiece, where the eye is the king of the meaning.







The film’s narrative follows three leading actresses, all appearing in the same movie (but not appearing in the same shot until the end of the film), and all undergoing their own personal crises. It’s very formally worked out, through a series of carefully balanced dialogues with confessors, synchronized confrontation scenes, and staggered flashbacks. If Farewell was Yoshida’s self-conscious Resnais tribute, this is him in Bergman mode (Mariko Okada’s story even begins with her experience hysterical mutism, à la Persona), though the finished product is much livelier and more pungent than anything Bergman would have come up with (maybe Zetterling’s The Girls is a more apposite reference point). On another level, it’s also referencing a big old Hollywood melodrama, pastel panoramas in various shades of bitch (there are also nods to All About Eve).

En esta intrincada película, se explora la naturaleza de las actrices y sus métodos de actuación. Las vidas de tres actrices son completamente desnudadas, a través de escenas de sus vidas sacadas de entrevistas a cada una de ellas. Todas han sufrido experiencias traumáticas que contribuyeron en la exploración de sus trabajos dramáticas. Una de ellas fue violada por su profesor, otra tuvo un padrastro que abusó de ella, y la tercera experimentó una parálisis de sus cuerdas vocales por una causa desconocida. (FA)

Aki, Shôko et Makiko sont trois actrices célèbres. Elles tiennent les rôles principaux d'Aveux, théories, actrices, film dont le tournage est censé débuter deux jours plus tard. Mais toutes trois sont frappées d'une indicible angoisse. Aki se rend compte qu'elle est observée par un homme muni d'une caméra. Shôko perd l'usage de la parole. Quant à Makiko, elle retourne dans son pays natal. Chacune d'elle est accompagnée d'un confident, qui est aussi un contradicteur…
